My wedding isn't until October 16th, but if someone sent us a check with the response card because they can't come do I send them a thank you now or wait until after the wedding when I send them all out? I have bride and groom thank you's from Target that I just bought for whatever so I could just send that now. Or should I wait for the ones from the photographer?

I had the same issue and I decided to wait and send them all out at the same time.

Re: Eitquette Question
its kind of customary in my culture to send a small (usually monetary) gift even if you cant come, i know my cousin just called and thanked them and wished theyd could come etc, and then sent them a thank you card after the wedding

Re: Eitquette Question
For gifts that I received way in advance of the wedding (over 6 weeks before), I sent out a very simple thank you card that I got at Hallmark (like a pack of 10 -- I used 8 or so). As the wedding got closer, I stopped doing that, and will send them thank you's when we get our photo ones.
It's up to you. If you'd like to send a thank you now, you can certainly do that, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
I sent an engagement present to one of DH's friends since we were missing their male/female 'shower' last week and we got back a HUGE long hand-written card where she thanked us for the wedding present. I wonder if that means we're off the hook for the wedding. (I really don't like this girl.)

Re: Eitquette Question
I sent them thank yous right away. It was nice to get one or two off my plate, rather than adding to the mountain of thank yous I'll have to write after the HM.

Re: Eitquette Question
I sent about 20 thank you's out the about 10 days before the wedding. I had gotten so many gifts from declines and just wedding gifts that I wanted to get something out asap. I will still send those people a photo thank you when I do them all.

Re: Eitquette Question
I sent a thank you card right away and I am going to send the official Thank you to them as well. Its just nice to do to let people know you apprecaite that they sent something even though they arent coming ya know? It looks nicer too.
Think if you sent someone a check without going wouldnt it be nice to get a thank you card from them right away?
