Does anyone have an electric fireplace? I am looking to purchase one, but want one with a real looking flame. If so, where did you shop for yours? Thanks!

Re: Electric fireplaces
Not sure where you live but there is a fireplace store on Metropolitan Avenue between Ascan and 71st Ave. I'm not sure of the exact location.

Re: Electric fireplaces
I saw some really nice electric fireplaces/stoves at the end of last winter .. and I especially liked a stove model by Dimplex .. only they were more money than I was prepared to spend .. but the 'fire' illusions were great on many of the Dimplex models .. so .. I cheaped out and got one from Overstock.com .. I thought 'how bad can they be' .. but the fire illusion on mine is horrible .. and I'm sorry now that I did cheap out instead of waiting and saving.
Anyway .. definitely take a look around, and get to know the models if you do decide to buy online .. so you won't be disappointed, too.
This is a picture of the one I purchased from Overstock.com:
I might be getting one in the near future, so I can give you more info then. I really want the kind that has realistic looking flames and gives off heat. I have to get it in time for winter - with my hot cocoa (with just a smidge of Bailey's ).

Re: Electric fireplaces
The one I bought gives off heat. I nice feature would be to have one that gives off a crackling fire sound .. I know there are models available like that.
But again, they can get really pricey .. and I never looked that far into it.
But Dimplex seemed like they make good products.

Re: Electric fireplaces
I finally got the electric fireplace - well, I bought it at least but it hasn't been delivered yet We got one of the Dimplex fireplaces and the flame is probably as realistic as it can get for a fake fireplace. The flames seem to run on some kind of projection screen and with a remote you can make the flames go slower or faster. It also gives off heat. I've also seen ones that have the 'roaring fire' sound chip There are also glowing embers underneath the logs.
We found ours at Astor Club in NYC on W. 55th St. They're having a sale right now for the floor models, which range in price from around $600 - $1700. www.astorclub.com

Enjoy yours!!! We got ours a week before Christmas. We also got a Dimplex. Everyone was VERY impressed by the flame. My mantel is very similar to yours. We love it!

You are going to love it. We absolutely love ours. The flame is even nicer in your living room than in the store. Enjoy!!
