Elliptical or Treadmill for my home 'gym'?

OK, not home gym exactly, as it will be in my basement LOL. I need to get something I can do at home after work, and I am torn between a treadmill and an elliptical. When I lived in NY, I used both at the gym, but can only afford to buy one for my home. I love the elliptical, but I cannot afford the precor and dont know if the other models out there are gym-quality. I looked at some in Sears and they looked flimsy. The Sears treadmills looked more solid, but I dont know if I can run everyday due to bad knees, so I may have to run/walk alternating. Anyone have equipment at home they reccomend??

I myself would buy a treadmill, because I can do different things on the treadmill...such as walk, run, and put it on an incline.
I would get bored with the elliptical. But that is just me personally.
I like to vary my workouts, so I dont get bored.

Well I have to be different. I'd say teh Elliptical. You can put resistance on it. But my main reason is really just personal preference.

I have a knee injury and the non-impact of the elliptical means I can actually do my workout without pain. I also have this inner ear thing (I guess that's the problem) that makes using the treadmill a funky experience for me when getting off that thing. I feel little dizzy and off base. It goes away but I hate that feeling.

After tons of research, we went this weekend and bought a treadmill. It came down to the stability of both-I was spoiled w. the Precor at the gym, and the ellipticals that you can buy for home are so flimsy. I used one this weekend, and it felt like it was going to fall apart. I went w. a NordicTrak treadmill. It comes on Saturday...I cannot wait! Now I can get back on my workout routine, and do it whenever I want This treadmill is Ifit compatible-anyone ever use that? I dont even know what it is
