So I am really embarassed to ask this but I feel like there might be someone who can help...
I have been taking an anxiety medication for a few years and am ready to come off of it. I am trying to find out about weaning myself off of it and what the withdrawal is like. has anyone gone through this? I am really scared!

Re: Embarassed to ask...
defin speak to your doctor before lowering any does of anxiety medication. you don't want to play around with withdrawal from something like that on your own.

Re: Embarassed to ask...
I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV...
but I have heard that common withdrawl symptoms can include headache, dizziness, the shakes, nausea, etc.
I would do some research, and ask your prescribing doctor.
Good Luck!

Re: Embarassed to ask...
i did it on y own and effed up my life for like 2 weeks...i think you need to switch to a lower dose (or take 1/2 of yours for like 2 weeks, then go lower), but DEF go to your psy for help! and idk if you have a psychologist, but that will help supplement the meds

Re: Embarassed to ask...
nothing to be embarrased about. But i do know whats its like cuz my aunt was on it for 2yrs and coming off it was not good. Like any drug you go through withdrawal tiredness extreme, moodiness. it took her about a month and half for the affects to wear off. Her anxiety did come back though but she didnt want to take the drugs. Theres homeopathic stuff that can help you.

Re: Embarassed to ask...
MANY years ago I was on 100mg of Paxil for my OCD and I weaned myself off of it. I lowered my dosage by 10mg once a week until I was down to nothing. I had tried to quit cold turkey and I got very sick.

Re: Embarassed to ask...
Don't quit cold turkey.. def. taper yourself off and follow your doctors instructions because at first I tried cold turkey and it was horrible. I was dizzy and I had these weird headaches that felt like someone was electrocuting me. It was terrible. I finally stopped taking it after weening myself off and I wont take anything like that ever again. I still have really bad anxiety but I take a xanax when it gets really bad and I go to acupuncture. I could not even begin to tell you how great acupuncture has helped me with the anxiety. I am a completely different person. It works better than the medication I was taking!!

Re: Embarassed to ask...
I agree that everything effects people differently. I am currently on no medication other than my thyroid medication. I have been on in the past pretty much every anxiety medication.
I was on 10mg of lexapro for years and I didn't feel that it did anything. Most likely because i had a thyroid issue and the anxiety was a symptom of it.
I spoke with my phyciatrist when I wanted to get off and did the taper. Even then, when I would work out especially, I would get those weird electrical type pulse sensations through out my body that I would not wish on anyone. Emotionally I was fine.
Paxil was the same but worse on a much larger scale.
Ps...I thought my doctor would be pissed when I wanted to come off but I told him I was going to do it and he helped me.
On a side note. If anyone is struggling with borderline hypothyroid or hypothyroid and wants to fm me, I will be glad to help. I have been on medication for a year now and it has changed my life.
