I have VERY fair skin...and I tend to be selfconscious about my underarms. Shaving is not the problem...so much as the skin there itself. (you fair girls will understand) While the rest of me is all 'WHITE' my underarms get darker and discolored. I DON'T WANT ICKY UNDERARMS AT MY WEDDING!!!
Does anyone know of a cream or trick or something that I could use to help fix this!?!
I've been using pro-active facial cleanser and that has peroxide in it..so I try to wash with that sometimes..but it tends to bleach fabric...and I'm afraid of ruining all my good bras!
help?

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
When I started using Dove deodorant, I noticed the skin got softer & less dark spots. I also use a vitamin K lotion, which is supposed to lighten liver spots, but it also seems to work.

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
Have you tried waxing? I do that as I have sensitive skin, and it works much better than shaving...

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
Your answer is waxing! I had the smae problem, used face wash and everything, started waxing for the wedding and completely changed. no five o'clock shadow as my DH called it, nothing dark at all, and the hair completely thinned out. Its great!!!! I will never shave again

I havn't...but it's not so much a hair problem...as it is a skin problem. If i shave the day before or morning of..i'll be fine...it's the skin underneith that bothers me Also I would have to let the hair 'grow out' to wax..and it's been summer. Though now it is cooler...I can just wear short-sleeves and get waxed the week of if that will help right?

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
Yes, wait and wax about 3-4 days before. Make sure the hair is long enough. Wear t-shirts until then!

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
If you've never waxed before -- try it out BEFORE your day. If you have fair, sensitive skin -- you might react badly, which would suck worse than the spots.
Do you wax your eyebrows or anything else that could give you an indication of how your skin likes it?

Yeah...I had my eyebrows done a month ago...and my skin was read..but it only lasted a day. Your right that I should do it ahead of time first...I will promptly STOP SHAVING!
Ok..new Question: Any recomendations for places to wax pits cheap yet well!?! (I'm in Copiague, but will travel up to 30min for good service)

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
I third or fourth or fifth waxing. I am very fair as well and one of my friends turned me on to waxing my arm pits. I haven't shaved since.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend anywhere on LI. I know a few good places in NYC.

THank you so much everybody!!!
I will be exfoliating and waxing the next 2 weeks...and I'll hopefully have movie-star pits in all my pics!
Thanks!
I will try to find somewhere out here...but I am nervous about having someone wax such an odd place!

Re: Embarassing Grooming Question:
Although its not a hair problem, the pigment from the hair is discoloring your skin. Also the chaffing of shaving, etc. doesn't help. I had my underarm hair lasered and my skin tone evened out within a few weeks. The bonus is I never have to shave there! Same is true on my bikini line (TMI I know!)!
