emcee or no emcee that is the question?

My FH and I do not want the typical annoyingly loud emcee at our wedding. We were discussing the option of not having an emcee. We are not doing the bouquet toss or garter.

Has anyone ever been to a wedding without one?
What do you think?

I've been to weddings with and without. Personally I have no preference. Both were fun.

I have an emcee, but I chose that particular one from the company b/c he's not the stereotypical 'show some love for the bride and groom' guy. I've heard they're good for keeping larger weddings moving and making sure everyone knows when events are happening (parent dances, cake cutting, etc) but I don't think they're always necessary.

I think it's fine not to have one. Personally, I don't like when the emcee whips out props and makes everyone play games during the reception. I just want to listen to the music and dance! Maybe you can request that the emcee just announce specific events like the first dance, etc.

we are having one. if you go with a reputable company your dj will know the difference of how to MC a wedding versus a sweet 16.

That's why we decided not to get one. Our dj will be taking care of announcements and that's all I want him to do!

I think MC's are fun, as long as they're classy and know they're working a wedding, not a prom. I think if the DJ does both, it may take away from 1 or the other. It depends on the size of the wedding also...if it's a bigger crowd I think an MC is necessary.

We're having one. Our DJ company actually doesn't even offer a one-man package anymore because they felt that it's too much for one person to do.

We're doing a one man dj/MC with Phil from After Hours. He has JUST the right amount of energy and I didn't want my venue (a quaint mansion) to turn into a nightclub feel with the lights and the obnoxious MC. I think it all depends on your venue and the feel you want for your wedding.

We have a one man also.. Just a dj. He will announce important things going on and obviously use the mic to get people to dance but be focusing mostly on the music.. I feel like if people don't really want to dance someone yelling that it's time to dance doesn't make them want to dance any more lol

I actually went through the same question with FH. We originally were goung to have one man do both but then is started to second guess myself. I got worried about the timing of announcements and other things throughout the wedding. The more I think about it, I want one person to concentrate solely on the music and the other to be working with the matir'd to time everything flawlessly. It may not be necessary but it will save me nightmares leading to the wedding!

We are also requesting for our MC not to be too over the top. We want people dancing but definitely do not want any props or cheesy lines.
