I know there has been some discussion of bells to ring at the reception in order to inspire the bride and groom to share a kiss. Personally, I have never been fond of this tradition. Whether it be clinking the glasses with silverware or bells for each guest, I just don't get into it. I went to a wedding recently where it really became annoying and I decided that I definitely didn't want to encourage this at our reception, FH agrees. Has anyone ever seen this tastefully communicated to guests? I recall attending a wedding several years ago where they had small cards on each table asking for special wishes to be written for the bride & groom in place of asking the B & G to kiss.
Anyone have any ideas to share?

I am not sure you can really avoid this. I have been to weddings where it was annoying, and to weddings where it was not done at all. I think if your crowd wants to do it, they will.

i totally agree with you. We were at a wedding like that, it got irritating. I think even if you have little cards someone is going to do it anyway. I dont have ideas, but if any one else does i would love to hear them as well.

It wasn't done at our wedding. We didn't do anything to encourage or discourage it (though I don't like it) but perhaps since we were dancing and kissing all night anyway, it wasn't needed

I'm sure you're probably right...they'll do what they want. I just don't want to kiss on demand. I like more spontaneity (sp?) than that allows.
Just thought I'd ask if anyone had ever seen someone handle it differently. Thanks for sharing.
we didn't do anything to encourage or discourage...but my older cousins did decide to get me back...for being obnoxious at their wedding and clinking glasses...it happened about 5 times...all from their table...but it wasn't bad...
another cousin asked guests to come and sing a song with the word love in it...I didn't like that too much...it stopped the party too much...and I didn't want to hear people sing

yabbobay...I definitely don't want to hear anyone singing either.
I can imagine that would be pretty annoying as well. Hopefully we will keep them busy so that they won't even think about it.

You can't stop the clinking glasses, but don't put any bells out & you won't have to worry about that! I've been to a few weddings where that was annoying too, but I'm still doing it anyways, just using real small bells & hoping folks get tired of that quick!

I agree with the others that you can't tactfully communicate this - they are after all just very happy to see the newlyweds!!!
This wasn't done at all at my wedding - I was happy though. I assumed this phase was on it's way out? I can't remember the last time I saw this happen at a wedding......
