Engagament Party

Engagament Party

So I have decided to throw an Engagement Party since we are having a 2 year Engagament. We are probably going to rent a VFW type hall in our town, and my mom and grandma will make a lot of the food (I'm trying to spend as little money as possible). I have never been to an engegemant party - does everyone usually just hang out and eat? Do you play games like at a baby shower? I have no idea what to do lol... I am going to get a playlist together on my ipod and get some cute favors to give away...
Does anyone have tips/ideas for engagement party?
Any advice will help!!

Engagament Party

We just had a food and music in the background. Everyone just kind of had fun mingling and getting to know each other. A game might be cute though! Maybe like a trvia game about the bride/groom could be fun!

Usually people just hangout and get to know each other. My cousins and my fiance's extended family never met before our engagement party so it was a good chance for both of our families to get to know each other. If your family has any recipes that have been passed down or special dishes they're known for that would be another way to personalize the party and to tell more about your family.

I had a lot of activities planned but my guests werent too receptive on all the acctivities. A simple trivia game would be best to break the ice and not overwelm everyone. Then theres more time for everyone to mingle.

Also, the party can be used to tell about the wedding. If you're having a small wedding you dont want to throw a huge engagement party. I m planning on using the same color theme for the wedding as the one we had at the party. Its also a good time to start thinking about your wedding guest list... Im having a 2 yr engagement as well and didnt realize how hard it is to keep our guest lists on the smaller side. Our engagement party list was a good place to start since everone at the party was obviously going to be invited to the wedding and then we worked from there.

Good luck with planning and hope this helps!

Engagament Party

We just had our engagement party last month. We had a small party at a VFW too but we had a DJ. We catered food buffet style and everyone mingled. A few people told me we should have a dance but I wanted to save that for the wedding so we didn't do it. The only thing the DJ made an announcement for was for us to cut the cake. My colors had nothing to do with the color scheme I want for my wedding lol But i felt in 2 years nobody is going to remember that I did different colors. I say do whatever you want and can afford for your engagement party but I do agree it shouldn't be bigger than your wedding. Enjoy and congrats!

Engagament Party

I love that idea of a trivia game or something. We had out e-party about three weeks ago. FH and I have been together for 5 years so both families (somewhat extended) have gotten togehter before so, while we had a DJ, we didn't do many planned things. We all just mingled and mostly hung out at the bar. We're all pretty comfortable drinkers and minglers....lol. I will tell you this. We didn't take many pictures and I regret it. Pictures are my thing. I don't always think I look good in them, but I regret not having them for the future! Luckily my aunt was walking around taking a lot of candids all night, and FH gets very friendly when drinking so he just popped into random photos like where's Waldo but the two of us together only have about 5 pictures and they're all from the cake cutting, none of us dancing togehter or or just for fun. Plus the cake pics are from a weird angle. ARG, that's one huge regret, so if pics are something you'd like, make sure you tell someone you'd like pictures taken, and this goes for anything you want, not just pictures. Make sure someone around you knows what you want so you are able to enjoy your night and not worry about getting things done. I've learned the hard way for the wedding and now I'm thinking of getting a DOC! Enjoy!!!

Engagament Party

We had a Saturday morning brunch and just had background music. Brunches tend to save a lot of money. My party colors are no where near the same as my wedding colors. We didn't have games or anything but FH did say a few words thanking everyone for coming and celebrating with us. If it was a night time party we probably would have cared a little more about the music - I think Ipods are perfect as long as your dock has good speakers. As long as you have good food, good drinks & good music (morning time not so much) - it will be great!
