Engaged and not definite on the date....How long did it take?

Ok, so my FH (look, i got the lingo) asked me to marry him May 31, 2006 because he wanted to be special and memorable and knew it would be our last vacation probably until our honeymoon. I am a full time student with a new part time job and he just started a new job and is juggling 2 jobs now. We know that I can not save FOR REAL until after i graduate BUT I will start saving a little now...and he can save but he definitely cant pay for everything on his own.

That is the background information....SO here is my question.

How long did you wait to set a date for your wedding? We are saying 11-6-09 (our 6 yr anniversary) but we both don't want to wait that long. We also don't want to fall into debt because of planning a wedding sooner than that.

How do you deal with people saying, 'OH MY GOD, You dont have a date yet?'

This is long but I was just wondering what all you brides-to-be thought.. <- doesnt this face look like its saying 'Ay-o'

lol i <3 u

u r way too funny!

Well everybody is different and people will always have something to say!!

but i got engaged on dec 24, 2005 ( AS YOU KNOW!!!!!!!!!!! LOL) and THAT night we decided on January 2008 for a few reasons ( mostly it had to do with anthony's schedule and the cost) I booked JT on Jan 16, 2006 ( i only remember because it was our 8th anniversary!)

but - take all the time you need! it is an important decision

and when people say why dont you have a date yet? just punch them in the face

We decided on our date because we both wanted a spring wedding and it was close to our 4.5 yrs anniversary and it gave us time to save. I don't think 2009 is too far away at all. You'll have a lot of time to save up and plan!

We got engaged on Christmas eve 2005. Of course everyone began asking when the wedding was going to be. At that point we said 3 years. However, we wanted a spring wedding, so that made it either spring 08 (which would be 2.5 yrs from when we got engaged) or spring 09 (3.5 yrs). I didnt want to wait almost 4 yrs since we got engaged so it became spring 08. We were trying for May or June, but thats the Prime season, when we were pricing places we found April to be cheaper, so we went with the last week in April. Don't mind what other ppl say, you have to worry about you and your FH and what is the best for the two of you!!!

I got..wow that is so far away! But you know what, waiting until 08 is what works best for us. We need the time to save. You guys need to do what is the best for you and people will just have to deal!

We got engaged on 11/27/04. At that time, we had no clue what our date was going to be. We thought we would save and get married in 2 years. Well, we ended up getting married on 1/15/06. We realized we had to get married in the winter if we wanted to invite everyone.

We got engaged in March and booked our hall in May - we knew that we were going to get married in the summer bc I am a teacher and we wanted to go on our honeymoon right after the wedding.

We got engaged in February, and although we didn't have an exact date in mind, we knew that we wanted to get married in the fall and that we should wait until we both finish college. We had originally planned on the beginning of October in '08, but after doing some research, we discovered that peak fall foliage doesn't hit LI until late october, early november. After knowing that, we picked October 25th. It still feels like forever away, but I just think about how it'll give us enough time to save money and for us to graduate and hopefully settle into our careers in the 5 months between graduation and our wedding. When I try to think practically, it's not so bad.

Honestly when people ask and if you want to explain, there is nothing wrong with saying, well I want to wait until I'm done with school and our lives are a little more stable. We don't want to set ourselves up for disaster by rushing it. Most (there are a few crazies out there) will respect that and understand. I know a few people who are engaged and waiting with no date set and that is fine. Time will fly faster than you think if you pick 09 and as long as you and your FH are happy with your decision that is all that matters!!!

you guys made me feel a lot better about picking 09! i mean the date is perfect...November 6th, 2009...our 6 yr anniversary...its a friday..i think we should definitely stick with it!

yes..especially if it has special meaning to yuou and being a Friday that works out well. We are all here to support each other!! You have time to save and plan. Things are expensive. My church alone is charging us $750!!!

Re: Engaged and not definite on the date....How long did it take?

Just wanted to share my experience with you girls...

my FH proposed to me on November 11, 2005 while we were back visiting where we went to college. So that weekend we started to throw a lot of dates around. I'm in graduate school for education and he works nights and coaches high school football. I had originally thought about a fall wedding, but we just couldn't do it, with me being a teacher (hopefully by then) and him coaching football. I also knew that a few friends of ours were getting married in the summer of 2007, and the only weekends left were in August and I hate the heat! So we decided on December. Originally we had thought we could pull it off for THIS December, but after realizing that money would be tight and that we would have no time to enjoy being engaged, we set it for 2007.

We're actually so excited that we took the extra time. It has been fun planning our wedding so far. We get to take the time to find the vendors we want and most if not all, are not booked for our date! Set the date you want and enjoy being engaged and planning!

Best of luck!

Re: Engaged and not definite on the date....How long did it take?

FH proposed on 02/10/06 and we went hall shopping two weeks later and booked that weekend. I wanted to get the date as quick as possible because I know I'm the type who would have stressed about not getting the time of year or the date we wanted so we both thought it was best to get it done as early as possible.

We're waiting to start booking everything else till the start of the fall.

Re: Engaged and not definite on the date....How long did it take?

see this weekend we had gone to the future inlaws for a bbq...and his mother and his aunt were both sayin 09 is too long...and suggesting places that I can not afford...and it was so annoying. bc you know when you are put on the spot. and i tried to say how i felt about saving and they were like 'oh no hunny 09 is too long 08 is better..right?' the other ' oh yes 08 is much better'. And im sitting here thinkin who the F is paying for this wedding...not you 2! haha grrrr and so it begins...

MY WAY by frankie comes into mind right about now..

YOU HAVE ALL been so helpful...i love u li wedding girls...you make me feel sane

Don't worry.. try blocking them out.. I had to with my mother... except the opposite.. she was pushing for 09! But now that she is planning the engagement party she's getting all into the wedding.. things will blow over soon enough!

Re: Engaged and not definite on the date....How long did it take?

thank god because i mean...she was trying to get me to wear her wedding dress for god sakes...i can see it now...she thinks she gonna be planning this. she is not. my mother is going to help me. I hate to sound rude but his mom is going to be a guest. She is not helping pay for anything from what I have heard so far...

but i will just let it pass...i have to realize everyone has an opinion...

just mine is better. HAHAHa

Re: Engaged and not definite on the date....How long did it take?

believe me I understand completely!

Once you get engaged you want to be married and start all the planning etc.

I wish I could have coordinated something for 2007 but I had to wait for the same reasons.

We got engaged June 3rd. the wedding inst until May 25, 2008. Saving is a big part. We book our hall already and it is $650 a month from now until April 2008. Trying to put an extra $650 in yuor budget a month is extreamly hard.

So I understand. I say.. if you want to wait until 2009 go for it! It is alot of $$ and you want it well planned out. If anyone has a problem with you waiting so long.... you say ... 'are you paying for it' .... lol. No but explain your reason y.

Hun you need to do what is best for you and no one else!
