Engagement Gift

Wow, that's really generous for an engagement gift. Here is just a thought: Since they are getting married, obviously there will be other gifts to get for them down the line between the shower & wedding. Would you consider something smaller and put those extra dollars towards the other gifts since then you will know exactly what they want and need (like the formal china or silverware). As an engagement gift, I think a great item is some stationery (mainly cards for thank yous), monogrammed with their unmarried names - they will have quite a few thank yous to send out prior to getting married (engagement, shower) and Lord and Taylor had some gorgeous, quality items at really reasonable prices. A married friend of mine did this for me and it was great for the engagement thank yous and I look forward to using them for shower gifts - gives it a really classy touch.
And then, call who you would like to invite and speak to them about how you'd wanted to invite many more people but were unsure about the amt of fam responses. Now that those replies are in, and sadly, many cannot attend, I can turn this around to a happy thing- can I please invite you to the festivities?
