We're looking to do our engagement shoot in a library (book nuts) Does anyone know of a library on the island with an old traditional feel to it (ie ornate, dark wood)? We're thinking a college may have the nicest but which one?

Engagement location help libraries
As a librarian, I will tell you that most places have rules against taking photographs in the building. Check with NY public, I believe they charge a fee to photograph there. I can't speak for the Nassau libraries. But a lot of Suffolk libraries have undergone updates and renovations, not too many have that traditional look. Maybe try libraries on the forks? Cutchogue is nice and Rogers Memorial in Southampton was expanded, but has a really cozy vibe.

I used to work at Emma Clark in Setauket and they have an older section of the building, again, not sure that they will let you photograph there but it's worth checking. Good luck!

What library do you work at? I'm graduating in December with my masters in library science :)

Hey i'm a lib too!! so funny, cause I never meet other libs :)
I rec Emma S Clark! I worked in the archives there and they are really nice. If you explain what you are doing, they may be agreeable. NYPL is pricey for the lions, but they have a few very nice branches, if you speak with the branch managers you may be able to work something out (ottendorfer branch, jefferson market branch, and for something with a modern twist-Mulberry st branch). I work for QPL, but we really don't have anything that would feel like what you want. If you want to travel a bit, try Nyack PL, right over the Tappen Zee. it is really quaint.
