engagement part etiquette

Me and DF got engaged around 3 weeks ago and are undecided if we should have an engagemnet party. The wedding wont be until july 06 so I think it may be a good way to celebrate before the big event but I dont know what the deal is..

Like

who do you invite?
Do you register before one?
Whats an appropriate venue?

ETC...

Let me know if you had one and how you handled it!!!

THANKS

Re: engagement part etiquette

I had a choice between a bridal shower or engagement party, i choice the e-party i wanted FH to be a part of it. We invited family and close friends. We registered for it at about 3 places, then found out we couldve registered for our honeymoon. We had it at a firehouse becasue my aunt works there. We ordered catering and had some drinks and a dj. we had about 75 people.(which was mostly family) It was also a good place for the 2 familie to meet, I didnt want to spend my whole wedding day introducing everyone. Ihope this helps

I am also a 2006 bride.... We decided to have a engagement party.... in April of 2005, we are inviting whoever lives locally thats invited to the wedding, and we are having it at a vfw hall, catered, and a dj. I have been told not to register, for you usually are given $ for the e-party and gifts for the bridal shower. I guess it really depends on what you want, but since the wedding is so far away you aren't like over-doing it or anything.

Re: engagement part etiquette

First of all, congratulations!

I have been engaged since May of 2002, and am not getting married until September 2005. Still, we had our engagement party in July of 2002. Go ahead and celebrate!

We did not register for our party, which was a stupid idea. Yes, we ended up with a lot of money, but we also ended up with lots of towels that didn't match the bathroom.

We had ours at Rana's, a wonderful Italian Restaurant in Merrick. I guess it really depends on how many people you're having.

Thanks guys.

I think maybe I will try and see about prices and stuff because I dont want to go and spend a ton of $ on an e-pary when there is so much else to do!!!

Re: engagement part etiquette

we got engaged in october and our eparty is next weekend.

we invited about 70 people and i think 50ish are actually coming. its at my parents house in the poconos so we didn't want too many people there.

we registered after being engaged for like 2 weeks. it was fun and we wanted to do it. it has made it much easier for people to buy us gifts.

Re: engagement part etiquette

We had an e-party 2 months after we were engaged. We invited family and the bridal party. My parents hosted a fairl elaborate bbq and rented a tent and heaters for the backyard. In full fairness, for what they spent it could have been ata restaurant, but the casual atmosphere was so much better because everyone was able to walk around and mingle. We didn't register and I;m glad we didn't. Everyone gave us money, which helped pay for some wedding stuff.
