We had one. My FMIL really wanted one so she threw a big party at her house. It was a lot of fun.

We threw an engagement barbecue in our yard. It was very informal and fun.
We are going to do the same thing!

Re: Engagement Parties
We didn't want one but our friends got together and threw us a suprise engagement party. It was amazing, we both were shocked and all of our family and friends were there. It was a night we will both always remember.

Re: Engagement Parties
We didn't want an 'Engagement party' so we dubbed it a 'Meeting of the families party'
We made cards on vista prints website with the saying: Without the love of family there can be no other love. Come meet the people responsible for making and shaping Lori and Neil.
We asked for no gifts but everyone brought one anyway.

Re: Engagement Parties
We had a very small one (about 30 people or so) with our families, and then we had an even smaller one with just our friends ( like 12 people or so), same place just decided to split them 3 months apart-

We did the same thing! My family is not into e-parties, but Brian's family is. We decided to make it simple and fun so no one felt out of place. It was nice, because everyone was happy.

Re: Engagement Parties
We had one for just the family and bridal party about a year before the wedding. We rented a tent and had tons of food. Since it wasn't at a restaurant it really gave people the opportunity to meet and mingle.

Re: Engagement Parties
I would've loved to have had one but I'd rather see the $$$ go towards the wedding. We're pretty much paying for the big day ourselves and there's no one to throw us an e-party and we certainly don't have the $$$ to do both!

We had one and it was great! My parents really wanted to throw us one...his family and my mom's family is from out of state and it was a good chance for everyone to get together. We had it at the Meadow Club in Port Jeff.

Re: Engagement Parties
I didn't have one... I personally think it's a lot to ask of people to give an engagement gift, shower gift and wedding gift. JMO though...

Re: Engagement Parties
we didn't have one - I've just never liked the idea of them, some are like mini-weddings. We still got many gifts and cards from people for our engagement with out having any party.
We just had the families meet at a dinner after we got engaged
