We have been engaged 30 days as of tomorrow. Are we SUPPOSED to have an engagement party? If so who is responsible for that? Cause quite honestly if we do it ourselves it seems like a mini reception. UGH. Might as well save that for the wedding budget....

Re: Engagement Party?
I'm not looking to have a 'party' but a bunch of people go out to dinner. Like saying, 'Hey everybody, how about we go out to dinner and celebrate?!' There is normally no implication of that person paying.

If you want to do this, you cant really be the one to invite people casue it would sound tacky. Have a good friend 'plan' it for you and maybe they can call people and suggest the dinner idea?
They could call your friends and say, hey we're all gonna chip in and pay for dinner for ___and___ to cleebrate, wanna come....or something

I agree with this advice - have a family member and friend host it and invite others. They can suggest everyone chipping in.

Re: Engagement Party?
There is no rule saying you have to have one. We wouldn't have, but my parents wanted to give us one.

Re: Engagement Party?
We're not having one. I kinda feel like you are 'asking' for gifts... the shower & wedding are more than enough for us!!! JMO

You can do a little something, it doesn't have to be extravagant.

Re: Engagement Party?
i think its rude to say that you are asking for gifts - thats totally not the case in an engagement party.
you are there to celebrate your love and show everyone how much you love eachother! no rules as to when you can have one either!

if all you are looking for is a 'celebration of love' then that's great. we celebrated with friends & family over dinner and it was wonderful. but yes, i do feel that you are still 'asking' for a gift. i don't think that's rude to say at all. i've been invited to e-parties where i don't even know the bride or groom well at all and felt obligated to get them something.
