Engagement Party?

Engagement Party?

Hi All!

My FH and I am thinking about having an engagement party. However, we are not sure if that is asking too much of our friends and family. Having an engagement party, possible bridal shower and wedding.

We are getting married April'06. We would have an engagement party within the next few months.

any thoughts?

Honestly, I think it is really kinda close, but if you really want one, I would move on it really fast, like something with in the next month. And I wouldn't go with something too extravagent, maybe just a BBQ or a quaint hall with only your closest family and friends. Good Luck, Congrats and welcome!!

we had such a great time at our engagement party, and i would suggest having an informal one for the families and friends of the future bride and groom to meet.

also, people don't HAVE to bring gifts to an engagement party. i read up on this before mine, and it looks like people are expected to bring gifts for a shower and the wedding, but gifts at the engagement party are completely optional. so, if it's difficult for someone to pay for all of those gifts, they can just attend the party.

Hi, I am getting married a week after you and we are having our engagement party on September 10th. Just something small, like 40 people at my sister's house and my FMIL is doing ALL the cooking (she's the best)

very true that it is not necessary , but most will feel obligated.
we didnt have an engagement party for the same reasons, BUT if you do have one, which i am sure would be a great time, maybe only close friends and family so that extended guests dont feel obligated to bring a gift...

I agree, which is the same reason we opted not for one as well. I agree with an informal get together, and maybe you can write 'no gifts' if you feel it will be too much.

Thank you all for your advice! We are keeping the guest list to only immediate family, bridal party and a select few other couples.

I think we will probably have the party, in october.

Where did you have it?? We are actually going to try and have it in September not October. My FMIL (Future Mother In-Law? Right?) will be in florida all of october.

if we have it soon, we should be o.k....i think...
