Should gifts be opened during an engagement party? I have heard different answers for different people, and I dont know what to do.

Re: Engagement Party
We waited until the end, when it was just my siblings left at the house. They wanted me to open them, so we did.

Re: Engagement Party
I think I have read that since guests are not required to bring gifts to an engagement party you shouldn't open any you do get. It would make the people that didn't bring anything feel awkward.

Re: Engagement Party
The best man gave us a tub filled with stuff, a foremen grill, a micowave, a sewing machine, a blender, cups, towels, bathroom set and so nick nacks. He made me open it. My FHs unlce and family gave us a laundry basket filled with towels and dish cloths. It was in see though plastic. Everyone else gave us money and gift cards. I opened them to thank them. No one seemed to mind. I like it when people open their gifts in front of you. To me, I like to see their faces!

his family insisted and then everyone gathered around us in a circle, so we began to open up gifts. I felt funny though

Re: Engagement Party
No - they should not be opened @ an e-party. i looked up the etiquette on it before i had mine - and it said that gifts should not be expected (as compared to a shower - where the purpose is to 'shower' the bride with gifts). it said to graciously accept the gift but do not open during the party.
i don't think many people will NOT bring gifts - but i stuck with tradition and waited until i got home....

Re: Engagement Party
I didn't open gifts at mine, thank goodness. I felt so stressed out at the shower trying to open gifts as fast as I could.

Re: Engagement Party
It is your call. But at mine, we are no opening any gifts.... because we want to keep it more as a party not as bridal shower
