Should gifts be opened during an engagement party? I have heard different answers for different people, and I dont know what to do.

Re: Engagement Party
I didn't open gifts at mine. I suppose it depends on the style of your e-party but if you do that, won't it seem like your shower?

Re: Engagement Party
I had mine this weekend and one of my aunts BEGGED me to open her gift, which I eventually begrudgingly did to get her to stop harrassing me, lol... which of course started a chain reaction with 2 other relatives.... so i wound up opening 3 gifts by request, but really wanted to take them all home... i'd avoid doing it unless youre put into a situation like i was

Re: Engagement Party
I have never seen them open at the party before. We invited some people back to my house to watch us open the gifts after the party.

Re: Engagement Party
I've never seen gifts open at an eparty. We got mostly envelopes (only 2 gifts) so we definetly weren't opening anything at the party.

Re: Engagement Party
I didn't at mine b/c I didn't feel it was appropriate. But at FH's cousins party they opened everything in front of everybody...even the envelopes w/$$$! I thought that was tacky.

Re: Engagement Party
We did, but ours was a very informal party for our closest friends and bridal party at our home. I didn't know if it was tradition or not, but we just did what we felt was right and it worked out fine.

Re: Engagement Party
my brother and his FI waited until most people were gone, and just opened them in front of immediate family and some friends.

Hey do we have the same cousin? I agree it was tacky and everyone was bored out of their minds by this point, some people just left.

Re: Engagement Party
We brought ours home and opened them together, it was more fun that way. Plus you have more time to spend with your guests and get all the hugs they probably want to give! Leave the opening gifts for your shower!

I think it is something that is done after the party
