Hey..mine is in a few weeks as well..at the Bonwit Inn in commack in the room upstairs..Heard it was recently re-done and the chef changed..we'll cross our fingers! I didnt register ..my FH and I did not want to ..We already own a house and have most of what we need ..and that is what the shower is for we will get the new stuff and give away the hand me downs all at one time.. My mother and sister in law do not agree but I cant see registering a year and a half ahead of time..thats just me though if you need a lot of things then I would register for the engagement party..what we did is register at liberty travel for honeymoon vouchers..couples massage, romantic candlenight dinner, luau, etc. I hope I made the right decision and I dont end up getting unneccesary things!
Ours was at Captain Bill's in Bay Shore, and we were registered at BBB because everyone kept asking, so we figured we would register at one place early.
I just had my engagement party and it seemed that the registry was the one thing EVERYONE kept asking about. My fiancee and I live together and have alot of our own stuff already so I decided not to register. I also felt like it was alot to keep asking people to spend money on us. We stuck to our guns and did not register and it turned out fine. We got alot of great stuff and when people would ask our families what to get us they just said gift certificates to our favorite stores. As far as my centerpieces we used a small glass vase with a floating candle in it. We tied yellow and brown ribbon around the top of the vase. Sunflowers are my weddings flowers (and my fav) so we took fake sunflowers from a vine from Michael's and cut the heads off and placed them around the candle. It looked beautiful and we got soooo many compliments. It was a cheap and easy way to do centerpieces (after all we have to cut on the budget somewhere =) ).
ppl want you to register so they can get you stuff from there...but alot of ppl dont register this early bc theres a good chance it will be discountued by your wedding! Thats why my friend didnt do it b4 her party....good thing bc she got some nice gifts and after that they got lots of $$$$$
I am having mine in Oct at the Ronkonkoma Beach Pavilion. My maid of honor, Matron of honor and I are making the centerpieces. We got sand and shells from the beach, we are going to get a nice bowl and put a candle in the middle. We are not going to register though. We are not getting married until 2008 (have not picked a definite date yet)
We registered only for things we could use for the wedding...toasting flutes, cake cutter, picture frame, stuff like that. We are waiting until closer to the wedding to register for everything else. Good luck!
We are having our engagement party in my parents backyard in October. Rented tents/tables ect. I haven't thought about a centerpieces yet...I was thinking of getting some pretty lanterns with candles..mine is very informal. I did not register b/c i figured I'll save that for my shower.
