Engagement Party....

I would like to have my engagement party this fall.

Do you think that's too close to a spring 2008 wedding?

Noooo you can have it at any time. Mike and I got engaged in 06 and were prob going to have our eparty/dinner in Oct.

I typically do not feel that you should have a party with less than a year in between that and the wedding. It is a lot to ask of your guests. An engagement dinner or something smaller is reasonable, I just wouldn't do one that close to my wedding.

I got enagaged in 2004 getting married in 2008 and having my eparty in 2 weeks lol
my MOH is getting married in Nov of this year and is having her eparty in july lol!

people do whatever they feel comfortable these days.. etiquette isn't as hardcore as it used to be..

but personally I also agree with giving guests ample time in between.. it gets expensive.. plus your shower will fall in between there too..

but if you want to.. then go for it

You cant have an e-party less than ayear before the wedding...its alot for guests, with an e-party, bridal shower and then a wedding.

Well, it depends on how big it is. In my opinion, if it's anywhere but a backyard, and it's not really informal, people may feel as if it's too much of a financial burden on them. Usually a year or more before gives them time to save, if that's the case.

I agree - it should be at least a year in between e-party and wedding because it can get really expensive for your guests, there's also the shower to consider.

What about having it this summer instead of the fall?

Thanks for all your help and feedback.

If we have an Eparty, it will only be for the immediate family and bridal party and it would by pretty low key - like in a restaurant or something. I would prefer to have it in the summer but too many of my relatives will be out of the country for most of the summer (including my grandmother who will be gone from July till mid September).

I agree with many of you who say it's too much to have a wedding, shower and e-party but i also feel like it's a once in a lifetime thing that should be celebrated. I'll let you know what we end up deciding to do.
