I need some opinions. My parents are throwing us an engagement part on Sept 27. It's about a month after we had a party at our new house. I didnt call it a housewarming...but many people brought us gifts. I know some of my friends get annoyed when they have to attend too many functions (dont know why...i love it) that involve gift giving. Should I send them an email letting them know I dont want or expect gifts? Or should i just let it be? I really want everyone to be excited to come and celebrate with us. I dont need presents and dont want it to be a financial strain on anyone.

Re: Engagement Party
I hear ya....I'm going through the same thing...I put it in perspective though. We are pretty much the last of our group of friends to get hitched, and we've ALWAYS gone to aLL the parties, and have been more than generous, so every time I start thinking like that, I remember....And if they don't want to give a gift, they wont. Don't sweat it so much. People understand more than you think.

Re: Engagement Party
I really think you should let them know that their attendance is much more important. It would be nice for them to know this. Although you know some people (like me) don't like going empty handed and will show up with a little present.!! it is always nice to say those things so than people know that they are appreciated no matter what

I'm with you! And since I dont plan on having kids (my FH has two that live with us)...this wedding is the end of it for them. No baby showers, christenings, 1st bdays etc. I'm probably thinking too much into it. Just dont want people talking behind my back. I didnt know I was getting the ring when I planned the first 'house' party.

Re: Engagement Party
At my eparty, we told people not to bring gifts, we just wanted to be with our family and friends. However, everyone did bring a gift so in the end it didn't really matter what we said. If people want to give a gift, they will and if not then it wasn't a big deal.

Re: Engagement Party
We told everyone no gifts... we got them anyway... so just let it be. We didn't even have an official engagement party just a bbq in the backyard (no family just friends). In fact, I'm STILL getting gifts and we've been engaged over 4 months.
People are happy for you let them do what they feel is right.
