Was it mostly family? and where did you have it? I would love some suggestions/ideas?!
Thanks!

Re: Engagement Party
We had only family and very close family friends, we had it at the milleridge carriage house. We didn't want anything big so we had a luncheon type of thing

Re: Engagement Party
We had a Luau-themed party in FH's parents' backyard. We had some stuff catered (pineapple chicken and pulled pork) and had cheese platters, fruit salad, and stuff like that. It was a lot of fun! We had friends and family and kept it casual with horseshoes, pool, and volleyball.... everyone had fun and there was no pressure (we wrote 'No Gifts' on the invites)
We had about 60 ppl show up out of the 100 invited. (Many were OOT)
We kept it very casual also. We had it at FH's sister's house. It was a backyard party, we rented a huge tent and ended up adding additional small tents because it was 9/6/08- The day of the tropical storm! We bought one and borrowed 2 others from friends. We had it catered...lots of food.. It ended up working out despite the rainy weather. We had family and close friends, which ended up being around 100 people! Everyone showed up and had a great time

Re: Engagement Party
We had ours at Rocco's catering in East Rockaway. We had about 95 people. It was great, the food was amazing, they have a dancefloor, they do your cake for you. It was a formal engagement party.

Re: Engagement Party
We had friends and family (about 60-75 people) in FH's backyard. But we made it a 'Cocktail party' and hired waitresses to pass around appetizers all night and a bartender! We lit up all the trees and put up a tent and got a DJ- it was amazing! Pics are in my album if you need any ideas!!!

Re: Engagement Party
we didn't have one, but my BIL had one recently. It was a casual backyard thing with family and a few friends, but they did get it catered though.
I am having a lunch at a restaurant with just FH and my immediate family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents)... It will be around 50-60 people, i didnt want it to be over the top and too expensive

I think a just family thing is a nice thing to do. Other wise it gets rather big & expensive.

Re: Engagement Party
we did strictly immediate family & bridal party..not even close friends! we kept it very small. MIL wanted to throw us one, but since we only had a 1year engagement we kept it nice & simple...we didn't want to have one big extravagant affair on top of the other. (ie: engagement, bridal shower, bachlorette, wedding)..

Re: Engagement Party
Thanks for sharing what you all did!
I just want to do something simple and casual and have only the closest people be there. It's just hard keeping it small when you have a large family.
With the wedding being in less than a year, is it necessary to have one?
Maybe I can arrange a brunch somewhere. That should help keep costs down.
