So I know that the big thing on Long Island is to have an engagement party and while I was excited about it at first, the thought of spending the money to have it sort of brought my excitement down.
Its not a necessary part of the whole wedding process right? I'm not a terrible person if I dont have one am I? hahaha.

Re: Engagement Party
I don't think having a party is begging for gifts. Mine is this week and we didn't include any gift info on the invite.

Re: Engagement Party
we are paying for our wedding so there was no way we could do both...we went out to dinner with my father, brother, and my MOH.

Re: Engagement Party
We skipped it. The idea of planning a whole wedding long distance in 1 year is daunting enough. Planning a whole extra party on top of that just felt like too much for us. (Not to mention the whole budget issue)

Re: Engagement Party
We are trying to do a BBQ or Beach day just to celebrate our engagement with family, bridal party and close friends

Re: Engagement Party
i'm not having an e-party either. i know its a big part of LI wedding culture but i'm not spending the extra money on this and my parents and FH parents don't have the money to pay for this for us. we're fine without it and we still have the wedding to look forward to!

Re: Engagement Party
Its not necessary..We aren't having one, FH said no way. He felt it was like asking for more gifts. We might just have a BBQ in the backyard with family and the bridal party. Plus we really don't have the money for it!

Re: Engagement Party
know this is an old thread, but just had a quick question - do people invited to the engagement party also have to be invited to the wedding? Or is it just a more informal thing for close friends/family?

Re: Engagement Party
I had one, and i dont regret it bc it was amazing.. and we doubled what we spent in gifts, but it is not necesary AT ALL. If my family wasnt so generous it would have been a waste of money!~

Re: Engagement Party
WE didn't have one. We decided whatever money would have been spent ona part would be better put to use for the actual wedding.

Re: Engagement Party
i wasn't planning on having one but my sisters and FSIL threw me one. But it was really laid back and nothing fancy and so it didn't cost too much money. I didn't want people to get me gifts either but everybody decided to bring something, which was really thoughtful
