Engagement Party Advice (sorry, a little wordy)

Hello Ladies.
My Future In-Laws are throwing us an Engagement party next week end.
Now here is the problem. I invited my cousin, who is in the wedding party party without a guest. I asked him before the invites went out if he wanted to bring someone. He said 'NO'
Well, I just talked to him last night, and now he changed his mind. He started seeing someone and he asked if he could bring her. SHe must be someone he is serious about because he has never had any of the family meet anyone before. He also already mentioned this party to her.
My Future MOther in Law is going to flip!! We had to cut the list so we could fit everyone at the place. She even told her nephews that they could not bring anyone. We also did the tables already.
WHat am I going to tell my cousin?? I feel badly about the whole situation. I am also a little mad that he springs this on me a week before the party. Most of the wedding party is bringing dates also. But I don't know what my In laws will say if I ask to add one more to the list.

UUUUG! What do I do???

HE is in the wedding party. And I know we are under the limit of people. It also would not be a problem about switching the tables. If my family was paying for it, I would say sure bring her. But they are paying for it. I told my FH to ask his mom about it. So we'll see.
But I know she is going to be pissed, not at me, but about the situation.

I would just be angry that he isnt considering your feeelings in all this.

If theres no room i would say sorry- its not like youre telling him he cant come, just his date. And its only the engagement party- not the wedding itself.

JMO- He should be allowed to bring a date. He is in the wedding party. Just talk to your FILs and let them know the situation.

Not that this will make you feel any better, but for our e-party in July 5 (YES, I said FIVE!) people ended up canceling the day before! (see the thread about the 'best' excuses you got for not coming!). SO, when 2 other guests who called ALSO THE DAY BEFORE saying they could NOW COME- of course I was upset, but we had the room for them.
Depending on the size of your e-party, 1 person might not come, and there will be room for cousins date.

i had the same experience that i had to cut people. my rule of thumb was if they were married or engaged they were invited with a guest. i had a samll gathering though and we didn't want too many people there. everyone will be invited with a guest to the wedding so i didn't feel so bad. but just to make peace you could try and see if you could fit him in... less problems the better, right?

I talked to my cousin last night and I explained the situation. He totally understood. He knows I asked him this a month ago. But I told him that if we could fit her in, we will. He was fine with it.
So we will see.
