Congrats!

We had our parents, siblings, bridal party and spouses, a few other close friends, godparents, and close aunts, uncles, and cousins. All in all, we had about 50 people.

I didn't have a formal engagement party (I just didn't have the $$ for it and my fiance didn't want to have one), so what we ended up doing was calling only my parents and my fiance's parents, and maybe close friends (neither of us have siblings) and agreeing to have lunch on a Saturday afternoon at a local restaurant (we called and made reservations for a private room in the back).

We had a blast and we were able to afford it..so it may be worth a shot..

Both your families-and any friends you want there.

I would say both your close families and close friends (people you know who would definitely be invited to the wedding).

I wanted to add we definetely had more people than we expected-we had a Engagement party BBQ so it was very laid back & casual. There were people there; that we probably will not be able to invite to the wedding just because of budget constraints.

We actually had 2. One with our friends and we just had them over to the apartment for pizza and beer, and then the other FMIL paid for and invited all the aunts/uncles, cousins, and close adult friends.

We just started planning our eparty. I wanted a little get together of like 50 ppl but then last night we went over just immediate fam and close friends and it wound up being 120... we cut a bunch of ppl but were still at 80 hopefully ppl will be buzy. Im having it at FFIL's backyard and just renting tents and getting it catered and hooking up an ipod for music.

Both families - bridal party/close friends... we have 101 people coming LOL

The whole 'small' thing didn't work for us

We had a somewhat formal engagement party - it was at a nice restaurant from 2-6pm on saturday(sit down dinner).

We had 63 people... and invited aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, great aunts/uncles... godparents and very close friends. Our friends were somewhat limited since both FH and I have large families. So we only invited the friends who would be in the bridal party (and their gfs/bfs).

Everyone had a great time! But who wouldn't with free food and drinks?!

We tried to keep it family and close close friends.. Just bridal party and other close friends that live on the island... Needless to say it didn't happen because my Mom and FMIL kept adding guests so now we have 150 people coming.

My advice, try to keep it small like you want! Make rules like, no second cousins, no one who lives out of state (unless its close family), no guests for single people, and maybe a set amount each side can invite otherwise it can easily spiral out of control. I am a little worried about it being too much like a wedding because it got so big so fast.

WOW 150 PPL?!!!

WOW....

Thanks

Lol I definitely don't think 150 is normal!! Over 300 will be at the wedding though so I guess that's my only saving grace here.. We are blessed with enormous families!
