FH and I want to start thinking about or engagement party. We don't want to do anything crazy because we'd rather spend our money on our wedding but do you ladies have an ideas on how we can celebrate with our friends and family without spending a ton??? I'm up for anything! We would have had a backyard party but it's getting cold out! =/

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
I feel the same like you, we rather spend the money on the wedding than a big engagement party. My idea for an ideal engagement party would be just having a get together and cook eat and sit around just having fun because the wedding is the big place for the real gathering. I'm just placing that idea out there. Enjoy whatever you do.

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
We did ours at a dance studio. My parents offered to pay for the food and drinks. We winded up just paying the set fee for the place, decorations, and FH surprised me with a photobooth and his friend D.J. We winded up making double what we spent.

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
Why don't you wait until the early summer of next year to have the engagement party--then you can have the backyard BBQ. It won't be too late to have an engagement party then!

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
We rushed our engagement party bc of the weather. We got engaged on July 23 and our party was on Sept 3rd. It came out to about $1400 with food, rentals on the tent, tables and chairs, decorations and alcohol. It was at my parents backyard but his parents paid for half. We made a good amount from it and its really going to help with the wedding.

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
Have the party at the end of April in 2012 or just wait until 9/14/2012
One year ahead is a good time because it keeps people excited about it. If you have it really early, I think people have a hard time realizing how fast it will go.
Otherwise, I've said it many times on here, but Sergios in Massapequa... I think it was $900 for 50 people. It's about $18pp. The food is Italian and you bring your own cake.

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
Well that was nice especially when you have someone helping you pay for your engagement party, me on the other hand we are doing it ourselves.

We paid for ours ourselves... that's why we chose Sergios.

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
We're having ours at Jackie Reilly's in Bethpage. They were very reasonable since we too were on such a budget. It's actually in two weeks :D We're very excited for it. Like everyone else said though you can definitely wait until the spring for your engagement party too if you want to do it outside!

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
We're pretty set on having it within the next few months. We are prob going to do it at a restaurant. Papa Joe's on Commack Rd in Deer Park is 29pp. I think we're going with that!

Re: Engagement Party Ideas
You could have a dinner party at your house and cater food in.
