I've never been to an engagement party so mine will be the first. My mother and sister are throwing it for me but they've never been to one either so i'd like to give them cute ideas/suggestions. I'm going to ask the bridal party to be in the wedding that day and have already found nice ideas through here on how to do it. But is there anything else I could do that day? Any decorations, games, treats? (clearly I have no idea what happens at these parties). Any advice would be appreciated!

Engagement party ideas
We had our engagement party in June - which my mom threw. I gave the girls wine bottles with custom labels on it to ask them to be in the BP, and FH asked his guys as well. We didnt do any games or anything but we did have a DJ and danced the majority of the time. We had such a blast!

My parents and I are throwing the party in conjunction (meaning they're hosting and I'm sorting out the details). We're doing it in their backyard and rented a big tent in case it rains. We picked out all food that is 'us' and from our favorite restaurants. We're giving everyone mason jars as favors/glassware that we painted with a chalkboard heart and wrote our initials on (but will have chalk markers available for everyone to write their own). We're asking out MOH + BM at the party and got 4 mason jars painted with our names/titles to make it special. We're trying to make it rustic feeling with beverage dispensers, metal coolers for beer, hand made decorations and Chinese lanterns. We're just going to have an ipod playing music and cocktail tables set up so people can mingle and talk. Nothing too fancy or planned out, but I'm really looking forward to it!!!

All I can tell you is if you receive gifts, don't announce them to the whole party. When my sister went to an engagement party, the bride and groom sat with everyone in a circle and announced all the gifts they received from everyone, even the monetary amount of cash they got. My sister said it was very awkward.

Oh wow! I didn't even think about giving out favors lol but that's a good idea. Your theme sounds great. Not sure what our theme could be but it's something to think about. Thanks!

I read favors weren't 'required' for things like an engagement party but I REALLY wanted to have mason jars and I didn't want to get stuck with 72 of them once the party was over lol. So, favors! I'm going to spend all night hounding people to make sure they remember to take them home. Oh, we all got paper straws to go with them!

I can't believe they did that. I've heard of announcing gifts at the bridal shower but never the monetary amount. that's nuts. thanks for the advice!

My mom did candies (Silver Jordan Almonds because my name is Jordan and I wanted the E-party to be silver themed) which were very cute

I've seen a few a few different ways. My sister did hers just a backyard BBQ very relaxed and had a lot of fun. I've also been to one that was at a hall with favors and decorations all the trimmings. I think it depends on your personal preference!

I LOVED my engagement party! I rented out the bowling alley and they did the whole midnight bowl thing and dj'd for us. They catered too! It didn't cost a fortune and everyone had a blast. The alley hung up a big sign congratulating us without us asking and I have them the names so they were already in the computers for people to start playing. I got bowling scrapbook stickers and put them on the place cards, and we did cookie favors in the shape of a bowling pin with our initial on it.

That sounds like so much fun! I'm glad you had a great time
