My fiance and I have yet to have an engagement party. We have no idea when we'll be able to do this, but we were wondering what do you exactly do at an engagement party and who is supposed to go? I know it might be a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

The engagement party can be anything you want it to be. For example, my Fi and I are inviting only family and the wedding party, we think it will be a good opportunity for everyone to get acquainted. But I think it would be also nice to include friends too. It can be a cocktail party or a formal setting or just a big group going to the restaurant together, if you want it to be small. Just make sure that you invite only those you are planning on inviting to the wedding. FYI: GIfts are not expected or required at engagement parties, although they are often given. For that reason the gifts are not usually opened at the party so that those guests who didn``t bring a gift don``t feel bad or embarrassed. Have fun!

My mom gave ours -- it was an 'Open House' at her home. SHe had a food buffet and cocktails and people just came in and out during the day to say hello, chat, and congratulate us. She limited the invite list to close friends and family who would be invited to the wedding and who lived relatively nearby (so it didn't look like we were expecting gifts from people who obviously wouldn't be able to make it). DEFINITELY register for gifts first and have your bridesmaids or family spread the word about where you're registered. We got many presents off our registry. Our best man and his wife also gave us an engagement party at their home for our friends. Because we had to limit the number of friends at our wedding, they opened their party up to a broader group of friends who wanted to party with us, but who understood they couldn't all be invited to the wedding. This one was more like a casual cocktail party (although at some point it turned into a kegger!). ENJOY!!!Welcome New Vendors
