Engagement Party Invite Question
Is it bad/wrong/tacky/mean/bad etiquette etc to invite kids to our engagement party (brunch) even though we aren't having kids at the reception? The kids will be in the ceremony so they can still be a part of the day. The engagement party is small and mostly just family. The only friends invited are the friends in our BP. My FMIL says its okay because the party is during the day and the wedding is a night time thing. I just dont want people to be upset. Although most family already knows about the no kids at the reception.

Engagement Party Invite Question
I think it's totally ok. We had friends bring their kids to our backyard BBQ engagement party which was great because it was so casual. Those same kids, even though we love them, aren't invited to our wedding.

Engagement Party Invite Question
Technically anyone invited to the engagement party is supposed to be invited to the wedding.

Engagement Party Invite Question
We're inviting some kids to the engagement party (which is a backyard bbq) but we're not having them at the wedding. They're all under the age of like... 6 so they really don't understand. Everyone however.. is aware that children are not invited to the wedding. This I am adamant about.

Engagement Party Invite Question
We ARE having kids at our engagement party but not at the wedding. Usually it's whoever is invited to the EParty goes to the wedding, but guess what? It's a kid free zone and they're goign to have to understand.

Engagement Party Invite Question
We did tell everyone to bring their kids to the Engagement Party which was very casual, and pretty much at the same time we 'kindly' informed them that the Reception is Adult only though, just so there aren't any surprises. Must Couples we spoke to were looking forward to an Adult night out without the kids so I don't think anyone will be hurt in doing that. Go for it, not tacky or mean at all!

This! I wouldn't invite anyone to the engagement party that I wasn't inviting to the wedding. Just like I wouldn't invite someone to my shower if they weren't invited to the wedding.

Engagement Party Invite Question
I didnt invite kids (including the 2 kids in the wedding party) to my eparty. We already had 80+ guests, which was more than I wanted to begin with. One of my cousins and one of FHs cousins tried pulling the 'we don't have anyone to babysit them' bluff, I think in an attempt to test whether I was serious about no kids, but I said that I was sorry but there were no children invited, so both husbands stayed home to watch the kids. I think the eparty sets the tone of your wedding. If I had been a pushover and allowed them to bring their kids to the eparty (after the invitations were clearly only addressed to the adults), I feared that they'd try to do the same thing for the wedding, and I absolutely don't want children at my wedding. On the other hand, if you don't have family who likes to test you (LOL), you can invite whomever you would like to the eparty, and just make it clear that you want them to celebrate with you, but that the actual wedding reception is an adult affair.
