We had ours at the Hibernian Hall in Babylon (around the corner from the train station) and it was great. It's nice and it's big (they'll subdivide the room if you need it). My friends liked it so much that I have since been back to 2 more parties that were there (one held her engagement party there). I'd DEFINITELY recommend checking them out - they're very reasonable. Good luck!

My mother gave me a very nice engagement party at Bailey's arboretum and it was beautiful. I am not sure what you call expensive, but she hired a caterer that was not very expensive. However, there is a fee for using the house at the arboretum. The caterer was excellent though. I will ask my mother for the name.

ETA The name of the caterer is A & B Catering formerly Stallone's 718 843 3609. The food really was excellent and the prices were more much more reasonable than other caterers.

I planned a retirement party for a teacher in my school last year at the Blue Lagoon in Lindenhurst/West Babylon. The prices were totally reasonable and I think somewhere around 45 p/p for buffet, open bar, and dessert. Good luck!
