Engagement Party Problem
I want to keep the guest list to the wedding to at least 155-160. I really don`t want more than that. My FI really wanted to invite more of his friends to the wedding, but it just gets too expensive. My aunt plans on throwing us an engagement party the end of May or beginning of June. The thing is that he wants to invite the people he is unable to invite to the wedding to our engagemet party. I told him that these people will expect to be invited to the wedding as well, and it`s just not right to do. What do you guys think? Do you agree with me?

Engagement Party Problem
I think if you invite someone to your engagement party they will assume they are invited to the wedding. I am having the same problem with planning my party :)

Engagement Party Problem
You should not invite anyone to ANY wedding related party (shower, engagement party, etc..) if you are not inviting them to the wedding.

I agree with the others...
anyone invited to the engagement party will assume their invited to the wedding. To cut down on my engagement party, we only invited the bridal party and their spouses, and close family.

Maybe you & your fiance could also throw an informal party, not actually an engagement party, where everyone could be invited.

what is the difference between an informal or formal party...does'nt the same rule apply? not to invite those not invited to the wedding. Just curious because i plan on just having a barbeque for an engagement party, thats pretty informal.

I just meant that it wouldn't be labeled an engagement party & would be just friends, as opposed to family with gifts and stuff. I just thought if what they really wanted was a chance to celebrate with their friends, why not do it just because those people wouldn't be invited to teh weddding if they could have another party, though not an engagement party.

If I was invited to the engagement party...
I would DEFINITELY assume I would be invited to the wedding...

Engagement Party Problem
I agree with you. If I was invited to an engagement party then I would assume that I was invited to the wedding as well and would feel slighted if I were not.

Engagement Party Problem-buttafli
We got engaged a few weeks ago and are planning an oct. 2002 wedding. We just didn't want to wait! So, I know all about the expense and trying to have enough money....could you possibly find another way to lower the cost, ie an afternoon as opposed to evening, less extensive menu, dj instead of band, etc., so that you can have all the people who are important to you and your fiance be there?Welcome New Vendors
