Should you register for an Engagement Party? just curious cause i have been getting so many different responses to this, lol.. I looked up the etiquette and it says no.. but I feel like if I dont I might get stuff I dont necessarily need cause My fiance and I dont live together and dont have a lot of storage for gifts..what do u guys think?

Re: engagement party question
I didn't, and honeslty bc FH and I wanted to get some monetary gifts to help with the cost of the wedding. We got some very nice gifts as well. Lots of crystal pieces and some housewares too. Overall though we got money.
We felt that if we register people would only get us gifts if we didn't it was 50/50 that we would get money and gifts,.... btw... we are VERY happy we didn't people were way more generous than we ever imagined

There have been so many debates about this topic and it seems like its split 50/50...some girls register and others dont
Personally, I don't think its right to register for an eparty, you can't expect people to bring gifts. I think a registery is more for the bridal shower. - JMHO
ITA FMIL has been asking me to register since the weekend we saw her after being engaged. im not registering before the engagement party.

Re: engagement party question
i have never seen anyone bring gifts the an engagement party. with the exception of toasting flutes, cake server & knife & a cake topper.
all of the times those where given as a gift they where either from the brides MOH or sister, or aunt but they already knew what the bride wanted.

Thank you! I thought that it was ok now for couples to plan there own...esp. if no one else was doing it!
She may or may not be giving $ towards it...changes with the day, her mood and if she is getting what she wants.
PS just checked ur eparty pics...they are all very cute, love the cake from your sister!
FH and I are planning our own E-Party, and we are also paying for it. Right now I feel like we are more concerning with planning the E-Party then the wedding (booked a bunch of stuff for the e-party over the past two days - invitations just ordered last night!).
ETA: Although we are paying for it - my parents and family are helping out with about half of the stuff (cooking, centerpieces, etc), of which I am extremely grateful for

We are also planning it ourselves and paying for everything with no help!!!

Re: engagement party question
My e-paty is not until Sept 26 and we are footing the bill for 120. We will register because we both don't like crystal and that will be the one thing we know we will get. Everyone is different.

Re: engagement party question
I kept mine very simple, 50 people in a russian restaurant if anyone has ever been its more like a catering hall then anything else), centerpieces and e-vites. Everyone brought us $ and thats what we used to pay the bill at the end of the night, we even had a few $s left over.

Re: engagement party question
I also had the same issue we where told it was not proper, but some people did ask his mother where had register, so what we did was registered at crate & barrel if anyone asked we told them we did. and some people did get stuff from there.

Re: engagement party question
I didn't register for my E-Party b/c my wedding is over a year and a half away and who knows where we'll be living at that time and what we'll need. FH and I live seperately and neither one of us have room to store gifts. With the exeption of my mother and sister buying my China, I got mostly cash, which is exactly what I wanted!

Re: engagement party question
We did. We had a lot of people ask so I made a quick one and we got a lot of stuff from it. The only people who knew were the people who specifically asked if we had one. No biggie IMO.

Re: engagement party question
We registered. My friend who is getting married this october also registered before hers.(I copied her).
People have been asking what to buy us and it was just easier than fielding all of the questions. I am certainly not complaining though! We are not including the registry cards with the invites. But I sent an email to fam/friends with our wedding website. Our registry information is on there if they want to send a gift.
I think most people send gifts prior to the engagement party rather than bringing gifts to the party. So there wont be a huge stack of presents sitting on a table or anything.
People will assume you want money if you do not provide registry details or specfy no gifts.
My parents are paying for the E-party. i think my FILs are annoyed because I keep planning everything with my parents and I assume my FH is filling them in. (He's not apparently- or they pretend not to know). They have 2 daughters to plan weddings with. My only have 1.

Re: engagement party question
we are planning the party ourselves and paying for it. hence why we are having it at a park. becuase my fiance is a chef so he will cook all the food .. and its just a fee for the grounds.. it will save us a lot of money doin it like that since we are paying for it.. :) otherwise we werent goin to have one but want to celebrate with our family and friends.. :)

Re: engagement party question
We are planning it ourselves but having it in FH's backyard and my parents are paying for the main food. We'll probably buy the desserts, favors, chairs, and the like.

Re: engagement party question
my parent's are paying for it.. and FMIL is paying for a good chunk of the party as well...
We are inviting 100 people... it is at the local fire dept (FREE!) Simple catering DJ Balloons Cake
My friend had her engagment party at the fire house as well and included her registries and received an incredible amount of gifts...
we are having a lot of people from out of town and have included our wedding website that states where we are registered, local hotels, and local attractions...
my party is in july and we already started to see things being purchased... i didn't even send out the invites, we only told family and friends about our cool website lol
