engagement party question

Should you register for an Engagement Party? just curious cause i have been getting so many different responses to this, lol.. I looked up the etiquette and it says no.. but I feel like if I dont I might get stuff I dont necessarily need cause My fiance and I dont live together and dont have a lot of storage for gifts..what do u guys think?

Re: engagement party question

IMO i wouldn't. FH and I waited until after the e-party to register because we would have had nowhere to store everything... FH's gradma gave us glasses but the rest of our family gave cash which was very, very, helpful in boosting our 'wedding fund'.

Re: engagement party question

We are having our E-party at the end of may ...

when we announced our engmnt some people gave some odd gifts, which is OK ...

But to avoid that for the e-party, we decided to register. It worked out too ... because my mom watches macys sales and was able to get us 3 lenox place settings for the price of 2

:)

Good luck! Hope this helps

Re: engagement party question

If you're not registered most people may give you money. You'll get a few gifts but not much. I recently went to an e-party and there were only about 2-3 gifts on the table and tons of envelopes.

I registered but didn't tell anyone unless they asked....surprisingly my cousins never asked but they found it on theknot.com and purchased a lot of things off it. If you register don't put it on the invites

Re: engagement party question

We registered before our e-party because a lot of people were asking my parents and FIL's. We got a lot of gifts at the e-party off of our registries, but we also got a lot of money.

Re: engagement party question

I'm going to be very honest. We didn't register. Reason being is that #1. We don't have a house #2. I was too busy to even think of registring anywhere...3# FH and I really didn't need anything but cash at that moment, being that deposits had to be made on the hall and vendors. We did receive some exquiste gifts, like some insanely beautiful wine glasses, and lenox and party entertaining stuff, but sadly, they are stored in a box until we get the house. There is nothing wrong with not doing it...

Re: engagement party question

We were in the same position as many of you...living with our parents means little room for storage! The few gifts we did get are also sadly in boxes for the next year+ We mostly received GENEROUS envelopes which went straight to the wedding fund! I think it also has a lot to do with tradition. In my big italian family, it would be unusual to give anything other than money for gifts,

We might register before just because that might be the order of events, ya know?

But we won't be telling people unless they ask.

Re: engagement party question

We will only regester if we have time before the engagement party.

Another Eparty questions, did you plan your own? or did someone do it for you? FMIL is FREAKING bc we planned our own even though no one was planning one for us Just wondering what you girls did while we are on eparties...

Re: engagement party question

I think it's fine to register, but I dont think it's ok to include the registry info in the invite. Engagement parties are technically a celebration and a gift shouldnt be expected...even though most people will give you one.

I planned my own. My dad gave me the info for the banquet manager at the place we had it (dad's country club), and he and I did all of the planning ourselves. My dad basically said 'Just plan it and have them send me the bill.'

Re: engagement party question

Thank you! I thought that it was ok now for couples to plan there own...esp. if no one else was doing it!

She may or may not be giving $ towards it...changes with the day, her mood and if she is getting what she wants.

PS just checked ur eparty pics...they are all very cute, love the cake from your sister!

Re: engagement party question

We registered already and having our eparty in July. However, it didnt purposely work out that way. When we registered we didnt even know we were having an eparty!!

I think either way is acceptable.

We did not register, though people did ask.
We're going to register at Bed Bath and Bey0nd. Should I be worried that FH's got very excited when I told him we would go around the store with guns?

My parents weren't too happy that we were having a pretty big eparty (remember this is my second marriage but FH's first) They kicked in what ended up working out to cover the hall. We ended up with all the extra tipping, DJ, favors, napkins (which were a WASTE!!) and everything else. Don't forget...I paid for John Travolta!!

Re: engagement party question

There have been so many debates about this topic and it seems like its split 50/50...some girls register and others dont

Personally, I don't think its right to register for an eparty, you can't expect people to bring gifts. I think a registery is more for the bridal shower. - JMHO
