Do you have to make a registry for your engagement party?

Re: Engagement Party Question
Some girls do but it's not necessary.
We did it for ours only because I didn't want to receive a million picture frames, cake knife/servers that I would eventually wind up returning.

Re: Engagement Party Question
I registered before mine at the request of my mother and I do regret it becasue I figure I would have gotten more cash if i didn't. So thankful for the amazing gifts I got but the cash would have helped my wedding fund lol.

Re: Engagement Party Question
I wasn't going to in hopes of receiving cash. However, I invited a few work friends and ended up registering because I didn't expect them to give me cash. My E Party is in 2 weeks, so we will find out then.

Re: Engagement Party Question
You don't have to. I did not register for my engagement party hoping to get cash instead of gifts. I got mostly cash and 4 gifts. I have not registered yet and will do so in time for my bridal shower.

Re: Engagement Party Question
I think you can make a small registry, then go back and pick the bigger things.
You could put you cake serving set, toasting flutes, etc on there and basics that you know you are going to need, like wine glasses, regular glasses, flatware, maybe picture frames, vases, etc. Things that are reasonably priced.
Then go and pick your pots and pans, bedding, knives, luggage

Re: Engagement Party Question
we registered only because people were asking us 'where are you registered?' so we thought we should. our e-party was two weeks ago. we didn't expect anything and even told the BP we didn't want gifts but we did get gifts. We got mostly cash/checks, a few giftcards to random places and 3 things from our registry and a few things not from our registry.

Re: Engagement Party Question
we did because his mom wanted us to... her friends said they wanted to give us gifts. We got a lot of gifts from our registry, but also a lot of cash. a bunch of people gave us random stuff too. We didn't really tell anyone about the registry though, only if people asked. We were hoping for $$ to help us pay for the wedding!

Re: Engagement Party Question
We didnt register because we really didnt need that much at this point... A lot of people were asking and we explained that and we were more concerned with renovating the house and whatnot... We got mostly cash/checks, some gift cards and some gifts, mostly wine/cocktail related because we entertain a lot.

Re: Engagement Party Question
We did but I didn't want to. My family was just too annoying so we made it but I changed it a couple of times. The bad part was that we had our engagement party so early (June 2009 for our Sept 2010 wedding) that by the time my shower came around, a lot of things were discontinued
The good thing with BBB is that we were able to exchange anything we didn't want or use on our registry for cash!

Re: Engagement Party Question
my party is very very informal. And we moved in together about 6 months ago so whatever we needed I got already since I didnt know when we would be getting engaged. I wish I could register for cash

Re: Engagement Party Question
you dont NEED to but we did ~ ppl started asking my mom what to get us (random friends and what not, even!) so we made it. most ppl gave cash but it was nice for those handful of ppl to have options. we just made a small one though (maybe 30 items tops) at BBB for the occasion and will add to it later! hth!

Re: Engagement Party Question
My e-party is next weekend and I did not register. It is very informal-it's in my backyard. But, maybe if I were having a formal one, I would have registered.

Re: Engagement Party Question
We just had ours in June. We didn't make one in an effort to kind of guide people towards the monetary gift route (since we are paying for the wedding by ourselves). I would say we got 95% of our gifts in cash, checks, or gift cards (always useful!!).

Re: Engagement Party Question
my engagement party is tomorrow!! :)
we set up a very small registry of between 5-10 items that we know we absolutely need, because we have some family members that are insisting that they just HAVE to get us a gift. ( i only told 3 family members about the registry, everyone else I told we didn't have one) i'm very big on wedding etiquette, and according to other wedding websites it's not proper etiquette to expect gifts at your engagement party. for those that asked, we just told everyone 'we're not expecting gifts, but will be putting any monetary gifts we receive from the e-party towards the wedding'....that way we asked for cash, without putting it out there!
...so we'll see how it turns out tomorrow!

Re: Engagement Party Question
I wasn't going too, but my grandma made me! She wanted to get me my china set as our eparty gift! We ended up getting a lot of gifts off our registry once our parents started telling people we had one.
