I went to google how early to send out the invites and saw so many posts on how you can't throw them for yourselves...
I really don't care because we're throwing our own wedding with no help, why not a party to celebrate our engagement. Plus its low key in our backyard.

Engagement Party Question...
We were going to but Fmil went on a rant about how we can't do it ourselves and offered to throw it. We are also doing low key in the backyard but I know people who threw their own.

Engagement Party Question...
My parents & ffil threw it for us. We wouldn't have thrown one for ourselves, not because of etiquette, but because of cost. do what makes you happy. screw what 'the book' says

Future parents in law are throwing ours. We probably wouldn't have done it ourselves because of the cost. I say go for it!!!

Engagement Party Question...
I sent out invites today! 2 months in advance, I'm throwing it for myself. I also did a no no and put our registry info in the invites. I say do what you want. What's the worst that can happen?

As soon as I got engaged my mom exploded like 'We have to have an Engagement Party for you Now!!' So she started it, yet somehow I ended up throwing it for myself lol...with some help, but I was like, hey Mom this was your idea! Screw the rules, its time to celebrate!

Engagement Party Question...
We threw our own eparty. We wanted to celebrate with our family and friends, and figured we should just get them all together. I don't think there's anything wrong with throwing your own eparty, and have no idea where that rule came from. Do whatever makes you happiest!!

Engagement Party Question...
its considered 'tacky' to send out invites for a really formal engagement party that you are throwing yourselves which I totally agree with in many respects (though every situation is different)
however, many friends/family members have thrown their own engagement parties in the summers and sent out non-formal 'come join us for a celebratory BBQ!' type invite which I think is the perfect way to have an engagement party if you are throwing it yourselves.

Engagement Party Question...
We are having ours in a American legion hall and throwing it ourselves with some help from future in laws. The invites have our names on it and just basically say come celebrate with us, I don't really care if people think its tacky. Our parents are chipping in a lot for the wedding and shower so we couldn't ask them to pay for another party and my fiancé really wanted an e party.

Engagement Party Question...
We were going to throw our engagement party ourselves, but than my mother and father decided that she would plan everything and pay for it. We had it in a restaurant with about 60 people. It was fun and we got lots of gifts! We decided to do a registry and actually got some nice presents.

Engagement Party Question...
We threw it ourselves, but our parents helped us out financially. I think if we let them throw it for us, we would have never had as many people as we did! We didn't really get too formal with the invites, but we DID put our moms names for RSVP. In hindsight, we would have just put our own!
