Engagement Party Questions..

We just got engaged this eb. We are planning on a July 31st 2010..wedding (UGHH so long) but he wants to pay off bills..

Is it too soon to have an engagement party this summer in 2008?

And if we do a backyard engagement party (my sister has a HUGE nice backyard) How can we make sure its not TACKY?? ANy backyard engagement party tips?

I don't think its too soon to have an engagement party. You just got engaged....you should celebrate!

We're having a backyard party this summer to celebrate our engagement. To make ours a little less tacky we're going to have white tables and chairs, and 2 big white tents with lighting. I think all the white matching furniture makes it a little more elegant (as much as you can get for a backyard.) We're probably going to have some music playing in the background to set the mood. Good luck planning and I hope this helped a little.

Hi! Congrats on ur engagement! I don't think it's too soon for a party. I went to an engagement party last summer in the brides backyard and it was beautiful. They had salads, hamburgers and hotdogs, catered food, drinks and music. Each table was decorated with small candles and flowers. It wasn't tacky at all! Good Luck!

Re: Engagement Party Questions..

We are getting married in Jan 2010 and having our party this May. I think you should have it sooner to the engagement than the wedding, so what you are planning is perfect.

We decided on a brunch in my parents backyard. We are renting round tables and white chairs. Same places rent out linens and tents if you want. We are just going to play cds we make ourselves out of a PA system.

I was having a hard time coming up with a nice elegant idea for backyard party, and a lot of people on this site helped me come up with the idea of a brunch. My mother didn't want the party to go all night so I thought this was a nice compromise.

Mimosas, champagne punch, bloody mary's and who doesn't like brunch food?

Good Luck with planning!

My friend had hers in her backyard as well. She had a beach theme...shells, starfish, sand and fish bowls with fish as CPs it was really cheap to decorate...we ordered from Oriental trading and went to Michaels and AC Moore...came out really nice! I think you should have your party in the summer...why wait until you've been engaged for so long it's old news!! LOL

I think that having a summer 2008 engagement party is not too soon AT ALL!! In fact, I think the timing is perfect!! (Congrats BTW)!!

I also love backyard parties!! You can definitely do something VERY classy and tasteful...you can do lots of white linens...crisp white flowers and make the dress..very casual..hell, you can even do a 'white party theme' and have all of the guests dress in white linen....you can also string lights everywhere to make it extra romantic and sweet looking!

You can do a margarita theme party too....although this is a little on the kitsch side, but you can definitely make it fun and memorable...you can have a frozen margarita bar..lots of bright colors (I'd say skip the sombreros though LOL).....the possibilities are endless!!

Congratulations on your engagement!!! Fh and I got engaged this past Christmas and we are having an e-party in April...so no I dont think its too soon at all! I would have like a beach party theme...Have everyone dress causal and make it like a lu au' (i think thats spelled wrong) You can get some hibiscus' and decorate the tables.

i wanted to have our e-party not too soon after we got engaged in july, so we had ours in decemeber and are planning a january 2009 wedding...i didn't want it to be too long after because then i felt like, whats the point, everyone already knows, regardless of when the wedding is...and it was a total success!!!!

There's nothing tacky about a backyard party...you can dress up the tables and chairs, maybe get a tent, put small centerpieces on the tables and voila, you have a fancy backyard party.

And this coming summer is perfect timing...you'll learn alot about wedding planning by planning the engagement party, so think of as a research project.

I definitely dont think its too early, being that its an engagement party and you just got engaged it seems like the perfect time.

We are also doing a backyard engagement party. We didn't want to rent a hall etc because it felt to me like a mini wedding, jmo so for us the backyard party solution was great.
