We are doing an engagement party in his firehouse and doing it probably 2/5/05. So...I immediately think of #1 'red hot fire love' and #2 'valentine's day'...just so that my grandma doesn't have a stroke, i think i want to go with a 'come and join us for an early v-day party' and have lots of red and pink and hearts...this is basically the only chance FH will allow me to do this 'girly' thing.
Part of me doesn't like the fact that I won't have the same color scheme as what my wedding will be, but that's ok right? I feel like its ok because its an outright THEME.
But I am slightly crazed that everything needs to coordinate.

Very cute- our engagement party was all pink- and I had a special casino theme cake for FH to surprise him (which he loved) I don't think the engagement party has to match the wedding at all- you would run out of ideas when it came time for the wedding. I had such a great time at ours- it was one of the best days of my life!

i would say DON'T match the e-party to the wedding!! You don't want to give your guests a repeat show...
We had a Valentines Day e-party on V day and it was awesome. All red roses, candles, romance, it was awesome. And it was the complete opposite of our summer vineyard wedding with pastels!!
Your ideas sound great - obsessing about matching EVERYTHING can get to be exhausting.

I agree you do not have to coordinate at all. I had my e-party in August of this year and everything was blue. Then my wedding next October will be all red. Red and blue are my favorite colors and I got to use them both. Have fun with it! FM me with any questions. I had a blast planning my eparty and making the centerpieces. Here are some pictures:
Our engagement pary is April 23 (2005) and our 'theme' is the beach. For two reasons, one b/c I wanted a beach theme wedding, and have the reception on the water...not happening and two, the hall our e-party is at is on the beach...The Beach Club in Rockaway Park!

I had the same theme for my eparty bc it was right near V-day. I had everything pink and red, hearts etc. I was planning on doing sage BM dresses at the time, but now I'm doing pink and I probably wouldn't have done the whole pink thing for the eparty if I would have known that's what color I would end up picking for our wedding. So in answer to your question yes I think it's good to have 2 different themes/colors for the wedding and eparty.

our eparty was 2 weekends ago.. i'm still waiting for the pics to come in today so i can post all about it but anyway. we didn't really have a theme at all.
it was just cozy and lots of food. if you can call that a theme. it was at my parents b&b and all the decorations were just stuff that was already out for the holidays (think victorian, not santas and elves). everyone loved it anyway.
dont go too crazy about theming everthing together, it'll be fun more fun for you if you do the wedding one way and the eparty another way.
