is a year before the wedding to late to have 1? we never wanted 1 but now we want a bbq or keg party in the summer which is why we didn't do it this past summer.
if i do it this summer, i'm at the year mark for the wedding. too late to have 1? it's not gonna be anything fancy.....it's seriously more for the whole bridal party to meet and some of John's family and mine (majority live in SC and won't come up).
thoughts?

last year for Xmas andy took me to mystic for the weekend, at the aquarium there they have all sorts of different programs where you can learn about different animals....so he signed me up for the penguin contact program and i got to learn about them, hear the heartbeat, touch their fins and feet....it was amazing. seriously, i had tears in my eyes bc it was a dream come true.
see.. .thats awesome!!!
i used to be a member of the Bronx zoo... and even did volunteer work there when i was younger. i have a strange obsession with tigers and i always wanted to work with them. i was able to pet the face of a tiger for a good 45 seconds. it was so scary, so exciting... so awesome!! my heart was racing like a maniac.
i have also 'pet' a penguin... and they are cool little animals.
I LOVEEE PENGUINS TOO ... THANKS TO CHRISTINE I AM GOING TO THE PENGUIN CONTACT NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM SOOO EXCITED !!!

I think it's fine, because it's not too close to when your shower will be, if it was then it might be a lot to ask of guests.
I didn't want an e-party either and then my parents wanted to get together with his family when my grandparents were here, so we did it last night, we just had an 'engagement dinner' with our parents, grandparents, siblings and my best friend who's a bridesmaid, it was really nice just to have something to celebrate since the wedding is so far off. We threw it together last minute and then his parents went out Sunday and ordered tons of food so it wound up becoming a party, we had a cake and stuff, it was really fun. I definitely liked the low-key factor and it was nice to do SOMETHING rather than wait a year and a half before anything really. So I def think a BBQ/yard party kinda thing could be really fun and relaxed for everyone to get together/get to know each other (and you'll have room to invite everyone if it's outside, we were limited to our living room!)

i think a year before is ok but i agree with john on how long you have been engaged. we were invited to one and it was like a year after they were engaged and i was kinda like 'you're celebrating your enagement now? a year later' it was kinda like old news and then was a lil weird. i dont know, thats just my opinion. we had ours 4 months after being engaged

A year before is fine.. but I hear what Jackie and John are saying... It might be like 'um, you've been engaged for a long time.' If it's more of a meet and greet I don't see anything wrong it with.... Hell, I never see anything wrong with a kegger! I'll FM you my address so my invite doesn't get lost in the mail!

lol Joanne.
that's why i asked this question. i knew something didn't seem right. I wish we would've done it this summer b/c it would've made more sense....but we suck lol. who doesn't want a ton of beer though? no one will probably even notice b/c they'll be too bombed lol
