Engagement Party Venue Recommendation in NYC?

Hi Brides! Anyone have a suggestion of where in Manhattan FI and I could host an engagement party? Guests would include parents, close family members, bridal party and some close friends -- approximately 30 people total. Can't decide if a sit-down dinner is realistic for such a large party, so we might do a mingling/passed food and drink type of night. Budget would be MAX. $85-$100 per person including food and drinks, but preferably less if possible. Nothing too formal as our families are pretty laid back. The goal is really to allow families and friends from upstate and Long Island to meet, mingle and get to know each other.

ANY SUGGESTIONS????

A friend of mine recently got married and had his reception at the Lotos Club (lotosclub.org on 5th Ave.

It's a literary club and has rooms that can be used for such occassions. He had less than 100 people at the reception...there were 2 rooms with 2 food stations in each room, and tables in each room, too. There was also an open bar and passed appetizers...the crab cakes were especially amazing! For dessert there were cookies, mini fruit tarts, chocolate-covered strawberries, teas, coffee, and of course cake.

I don't know about prices and minimums, but it's a very nice place and worth looking into.

PS - tipping by guests is not allowed by this place for drinks and coat check.

STK in the meat packing district has some private rooms on the 2nd floor. The food was good. I went there for dinner. they have a website.

I think Carmine's might also work for you. In the theatre district. Family style Italian.

Irving Mill has an amazing private Room

Italian Wine Merchants by mario batali is an amazing space. I went there for an event and they had chefs cook in front of us. It was great.

ICoppi in the East Village is a beautiful space and a gorgeous covered garden.

The Stanton Social though I'm not sure you can shut down the entire restaurant on a weekend night....

Central Park Boathouse has great packages

Essex restaurant on the Lower East Side has a two private levels for the size party you're looking for. www.essexnyc.com
I did an open bar, three appetizers, three entrees (including filet mignon) for about $80 per person.

Inoteca has a private room downstairs.

Vespa on the upper east side.
