Engagement party vs Bridal shower

Engagement party vs Bridal shower

Do people have both? I was thinking the engagement party is more of just an announcement and an excuse to get some people together to have fun - gifts not needed. And then the bridal shower is more for just the women. I'm not sure!

You can absolutely do both. JMO don't have a coed Shower if you're having an Engagement Party too.
I had my Engagement Party in June and I know my Mom will still be throwing me a Shower (just ladies)
90% of those that I invited to my Engagement Party had already given me an Engagement gift anyway. And the others would have probably with or without a party.
I only had close family and a few friends at my EP. I don't have a wedding date and I wanted to celebrate my special time.
I say ... do both

I thought this as well. We did not have an engagement party but there will definitely be a bridal shower. It's totally up to your preference and the money issue.

You can do both but it is up to you.
We did both, we hosted our engagement party along with my bridal party they definitely were a HUGE. MY Bridal party will be doing my bridal shower, I am just planning to show up ( love these girls)

Engagement parties are not necessary but if you can have one I say why not, more to celebrate. I did not expect to receive gifts or money at my engagement party but I did.

I am doing both. I had a bbq engagement party in the park and instead of gifts my guests brought drinks and chips. It was alot of fun.

we had a small engagement party at my parents house just to kind of get everyone together and celebrate. First time the 2 families were all together instead of having to wait till the wedding which was nice. The bridal shower is a must for all the girls to have some fun (young and old)
