I just joined the boards and I figured what better people to ask then expert brides themselves. My fiance and I are having an engagement party and i was wondering any of you had any ideas about crafty/inexpensive centerpieces (its a casual house party), also if there are any other things I should put out such as pics of us or our engagement announcement. Any suggestions will be much appreciated..thanks!

when is your e-party? If its in the fall, you can use that as a theme for the e-party.

Re: Engagement Party..and I'm new!
we used glass cylenders filled half way with water. we put in 3 floating rose candles and silk flowers floating around. they were very pretty and not expensive at all. go to michaels and get ideas.

I got my glass cylinders at walmart. like $3 each. Votives were $.44 each. Got sea shells at $1 stores. Sand (free at beach)
use your imagination, you can put flowers in the cylinders and fill with water, or fruitm, etc

I am making balloon center peices. what we are doing is we are taking a gift bag and tying fish string to the bottom and then tying the balloons to the fish string. And then putting tissue paper in the bag. I saw this as a centerpiece at the East Wind Bridal showcase and they looked great. I got the bags at the dollar store 3 for $1 and I also go the tissue paper at the dollar store.
I know it dose not make much sense but if you want more info FM me.

Being that it's at a house and more intimate.. I would get pics of you and FH and put them in nice frames and put those in the center of each table.. It'll be nice to look at you guys through the years and will work great as conversation pieces!

Re: Engagement Party..and I'm new!
I went to the craft store JoAnn's or you could go to michaels, and I bought bunches of flowers, and styrofoam, and moss, and terracotta pots. I put these together. It was ver cheap, I think it came to about $25 for 12 arrangements. Then I bought mini terra cotta pots, and votives and put 2 on each table. Then I tied a few balloons to each one. Everyone loved them, and got to take them home at the end of the party.
I also made a small favor table-I wish I took a pic But I made chocolate rose lollipops, which I displayed in terra cotta pots and them I made a bunch of e-pic, wallets for everyone. I also framed 2 different poses in 5x7 frames, I layed them all out on the table. It kinda looked like a shrine dedicated to us, but everyone loved it and thought it was a great idea. Good Luck!
I like the idea of simple candles all different heights!
Welcome!

Re: Engagement Party..and I'm new!
We didi small glasses vases from Michaels with marbles in the bottom (Michaels) and the color ribbon of our party on the top. then we filled them with water and put Beta fish in them. when I say people loved them that is an understatement. Everyone took them home. I had to fight to keep one for myself. They were cheap and easy to make! Here are some pics. We did pink orange and yellow as out colors
