My boyfriend and I are beginning to look for engagement rings. I have always dreamed of having a 1.75 - 2 carat ring. His budget is 8- 9,000 or less. Do you know if it is even possible to get a diamond (emerald) of really good quality for that amount? Can anyone recommend a jeweler in NYC that might be able to help?
Thanks so much.

Re: Engagement ring help.
I dont know where he works out of in NYC but a Jeweler whose name is Mike has a store in ATTIAS Flea Market called Elegant Jewelers... he comes highly reccomended by a friend of the family, and he designed my wedding band. His diamonds are wholesale and he has very reasonable prices. I would def check him out.

If you could find a 2ct set diamond for that price, it probably wouldn't be the greatest quality. I think smaller and clearer is better than cloudy and big. For that price range you probably want to aim for a 1ct.

Realistically I don't think you're going to be able to get a good quality 1.75 -2 carat emerald cut diamond for that amount. I'm sure you've done some research, but just in case, you should stick to a clarity of VS2 or better, and a color of H or better for an e-cut...
Try Shenoa and co (i got my e-ring from them, pix in my album) in the diamond district. 1-888-743-6628 or 212-575-0786 21 Wst 46th Street (bet. 5th and 6th).
Feel free to fm me if you have any questions!

Re: Engagement ring help.
my friend spent about $12K for a 2 carat cushion cut with a good clarity and color.
i think you can definitely get an excellent quality 1.5 carat for $9K - i woult rather have a smaller ring with a better clarity.

Try the internet- seriously. Whiteflash.com is where we got my ring. They have great prices and because they are in texas, you avoid the sales tax.
If you feel weird about buying ti before you see it, you have 10 days to return, no questions ask. They'll even ship it to an appraiser so it can be appraised for you before you get it.
There are 1.75c stones for 9k on their. If you get a really simple setting, you can do it.

Re: Engagement ring help.
Definitely look online. My FH got mine online with a 30 day return policy and a GIA rating. And even according to the appraiser he got an amazing deal!
But I agree with the the above posters, I would trade better cut and clarity in exchange for size. One of my co workers (an ex jewelery sales rep) told me that my diamond looks better(color and clarity) becaue I got a better cut diamond. Also if you are looking to save, spend all the money on the diamond and go for a simple setting. You can always get a nicer wedding band or re-set it when you and FH has more money. HTH.
FM me if you want the online site FH got my ring from. Right now, I don't know where he got it, but I can find out. Good LUCK!

I also agree, that it is better to have color and clarity than size.
