I have a question.... a friend of mine is looking to propose. He picks up the ring on Saturday. He wants to have it insured. He got a quote from Chubb to have it on a separate policy. He also wants to get a quote from the homeowners insurance. I remember hearing that it can only be insured on the policy of the house which the girl lives in.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance
I believe thats true. My ring had to be under my parents house (where I know live) and could not be under his house since Im the one who wears it.

I do not believe that is true. My fiance had ours insured under our Renter's Insurance. Not sure if your friend owns, but if they still rent, have him put it in the renter's insurance clause because it was much more affordable with the same amount of coverage. HTH!

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance
I don't think it matters. I insured my ring on my homeowners (which they added the cost to my car insurance) and a week later I bought FH a Rolex as an engagement gift and added that onto my homeowner's as well. They didn't care if he lived with me or not.
They really don't need to know where someone lives as long as it's on one of your policies.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance
I cover mine on my homeowners insurance. I checked around at other places but I was just not comfortable with it. I will say that it is expensive for the insurance but well worth it just incase of an issue.

That's b/c its a joint renters insurance.
If he is the one with the policy, then no, she needs to get it insured. If they have a joint policy, then it can go on there no problem.

I don't have a joint policy and his rolex is on my homeowners as well as my ering. There is no reason that he can't insure the engagement ring.
My friend purchased his ring for his girl and insured it before he even gave it to her. He owns his own home so I'm sure it is on his policy not theirs.

That is true! My fiance insured it through an outside company...I can get the name if you want!

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance
maybe it depends on the company???
I know that I had to put it on our joint renters, we couldn't put it on FH's other policy.
