So I got engaged in march and there is something wrong with the setting all of a sudden =(. I brought it back to the jeweler this weekend and he explained that when they put the diamonds in the side, they had to hand carve the holes- in doing so they carved above where they diamond sits. (I think they cut it too big) Doing this caused the one diamonds to shift. My options are-give the ring back for them to try to fix it or make a new setting. Either way I will be ring less for 1-2 weeks!!! I waited 6 ½ years for it and now I have to give it back! I don’t know what I should do- I want my original setting but at the same time I don’t want to loose a diamond. I am so confused! Is it wrong if I just tell them to make me a new one?
Silly but upsetting.

Re: Engagement Ring Issue
Imo, and if it were me, i'd get a whole new setting made. I'd rather be w/o the ring for 2 weeks then always worry about my diamonds.

Re: Engagement Ring Issue
I also agree. Better to not have it for a few weeks than to loose the diamond

Yep I agree, Get a new setting to make sure nothing gets loose again. Also if they cant fix it, you will be ringless for even more time!

Re: Engagement Ring Issue
But have them give you the diamond back while they are working on it. You should never leave your diamond out of your sight while your ring is being worked on. If they can't do it while you wait and watch, take the stone with you!

Re: Engagement Ring Issue
I'd have the setting remade. It's better to be ringless for a few weeks than lose a diamond. You could always put another one of your rings on your left hand just to symbolize you're engaged!

Re: Engagement Ring Issue
This happened to me. I have a custom ring and something was wrong with the mouting. I noticed it 2 days after i was engaged that my center rock was loose... eeekss!! and i didn't have insurance... plus one of the diamonds near the shank fell out. I was devastated.. FH was pissed and the jeweler was embarassed. He made me a whole new ring.. I was ringless for a few days but no big deal!!!!! Rather be safe then sorry!

I agree with all..get the ring fixed so you dont lose a diamond! even though youll be without it for a couple weeks at least after that you'll have no worries!

Re: Engagement Ring Issue
yOu have to get the setting fixed..I'm actually going through something similar right now. I had to get my setting changed and the jeweler said I would have to be without my ring for 2 weeks, so I had to suck it up and do it. It was supposed to be in by last Thursday and I was really excited but it is now Monday and still no ring. Apparently now I have to wait a whole next week. 3 friggin weeks without my ring! I feel like its becasue the jeweler isn't on top of things and I'm really pissed about the whole thing cause I can't deal with people who don't do their job.
I might sound a little harsh but its just that I really didn't like this jeweler guy from the first time I met him because he was trying to tell me what I should and shouldn't like. I'm the customer, you please me!...........just had to get that off my chest.
So O guess the moral of the story is just to dod what you have to do and don't prolong it....
