So for the past few days i've experienced this little red rash on my engagement ring finger. I thought maybe it was the soap and cleaning stuff that may have caused it but it hasn't gone away and seems to get worse when i wear my ring...i am so upset about this. I did some research and found that people can develop allergies to the metals found in rings as regardless of if they are platinum, white gold or gold they contain some other kind of metal, like nickle. Sooooooooooo i heard about boiling the ring for 15 minutes and then letting the rash heal....has anyone heard of anything or this before I am so sad! and want to wear my ring i feel naked without it.

One of my co-workers had this too and she was told that it can happen when water stays under your ring from washing your hands.

YUP! I know how you feel...I actually get some egzema (sp?) on my hands once in a while..in fact I used to never even wear rings until i got engaged b/c of it.... You can get creame from your dr.... just always make sure your hands are super dried off before you put your e-ring on b/c any wetness or dampness will make it worse!

it may even be more simple-- like the weather and water getting trapped under the ring and causing your skin to be dry or irritated-- so take it off when you sleep or keep it of when you are at home just give the finger some air and maybe put cream on it-
hth
ive gotten this before too so i did what this poster said and it helps a lot.. hope yours is as simple too

Re: Engagement Ring Rash???
this actually happened to me. I don't normally wear rings and I had the this red 'rash'/soreness for a bit. I just presumed that since I never really wore rings it was just my skin adjusting to the constant 'friction' of the ring. It went away after a few weeks and I have been fine ever since.

Have you by any chance been using Purell or any other kind of antibacterial gel on your hands? I had this trouble & when I stopped using it, the irritation under my ring went away. Mine looked like eczema.
My jeweler also told me to stop using it because it cane actually tarnish your ring, even platinum. Its too strong & irritating.

See i've never had anything like this before and now I am like where did this come from!!!! I also read that you can wear your ring for 7 years and have no problems and then just like that you develop it and especially after you are pregnant because of the hormonal changes. So strange really, right now I am wearing it on my right finger until the my ring finger gets better!!

No actually i've been doing what the jeweler told me to do when cleaning, warm water and a mild dish cleaner then dip it in rubbing alcohol and let it dry..i've been doing that since May and its worked but this just came out of no where!

Re: Engagement Ring Rash???
I have an eternity band that I wear on my middle finger and developed this recently. The band is platinum. I got rid of the rash by applying lotion. I think it has to do with the cold weather in this case. Maybe if you put lotion on your hands every night and morning it would help.

Re: Engagement Ring Rash???
oh yeah i use that to kill germs but i usually take my ring off for stuff like that even when I put lotion on i try to take my ring off.
BTW.. what actually worked for me was boiling water, pouring it into a mug, and letting my ring sit in that for 15 mins. Boiling the ring itself was a little scary for me.. and if i remember correctly, someone on the site above mentioned peroxide...which is WAAAYYY to scary for me to put my ring in!

Yeah what i actually did was boil water and placed the ring in the pot to sit for 15 minutes not to boil over the stove...so far on my right hand it is fine, the left hand i am healing it is nothing major just a red spot, in the meantime FH is calling the jeweler and we will take it to get a barrier put on it not a bad time to do our wedding bands while we're there!
it is def. an allergic reaction because I am very careful when i wash my hands and put lotion on, cleaning the house i always try to take the ring off even when cleaning it i hair dry it with heat so no spots will get on it! So it has to be a reaction to the metal. I am like this with earrings too i can't wear them in all the time i have to take them out.

Re: Engagement Ring Rash???
Wow this exact same thing is happening to me right now. I have had my e-ring on my right hand for over a month and every time i put it back on my left the rash starts within hours. Im waiting until the skin looks completely normal again before trying again. Im also going to have my white gold ring redipped before moving it back since its starting to yellow and maybe thats why. But again like you girls I have Pave half way around.
What i did discover the second time the rash came back was that the under side of the pave had so much gunk hardened in it where i didnt even realize it wasnt part of the ring. I used a small paper clip to scrape it out and then I scrubbed it with toothpaste and a toothbrush.. I havent tried putting it back on the left since its not all healed yet but maybe thats why the rash started.
If you girls discover a miracle cure let me know.. I hate wearing it on my right. Some older guy at work noticed and asked if it was the 'new thing' kids are doing these days.

So annoying, good luck! If nothing works try the doctor b/c it might be egzema (sp?) which only goes away with cream

Re: Engagement Ring Rash???
I had the same thing. It's because water gets under your ring and irritates the skin. Visit your derm. and they will give you an ointment. Infortunately you will have to not wear your ring for a few days. Don't do what I did either. Wait until it's completely gone before you start wearing your ring again. One mopre thing, have your ring steam cleaned before you wear it again just in case.
Oh, one more thing...avoid creams, lotions and anti-bacterial stuff. The skin needs to be dry for a while
When this does clear up, take off your ring or dry under it really good when you wash your hands or have them in water. If I am out and I need to take my ring off, it put it in my teeth (It may be gross, but I am NOT looking this rock!! ) If you have any questions, please FM me any time
