JuneBride's Story
Jim and I have been living together for about 4 years or so - dating about 5 We spoke about getting engaged but we weren't in a rush (we were happy the way things were) So we went on a cruise last summer (August) with another couple. On the cruise they kept talking about buying diamonds on the islands. so anyway Jim went scuba diving in Grand Caymon - Jen and I went shopping and of course as soon as we went into the shops they started showing us E. Rings, well I fell in love with a ring - so we were meeting up with the guys at 12:00 and I didn't know how I was going to tell him - but it came out quick - he wasn't that keen on the idea he wanted it to be a surprise (and so did I) he didn't have his card on him so I had to buy my own ring... I said let's just buy it and get engaged when ever we decide... Well on the last day everyone had gotten off the boat we were the last two and he asked me (We had no idea that we were getting engaged on that cruise) or married 10 months later... But here I am on this web-site as JuneBride... We were so happy living together I hope marriage doesn't ruin it. I know that sounds silly but... Anyway I can't wait to read everyone else's stories.

A casual proposal...
Fi and I had been together for almost 8 years. One day as he was getting ready to go out on an evening appointment, he said 'Maybe this weekend if we don't have anything else we have to get done we can go and look at some rings.' I had to confirm that he meant engagement rings. That Saturday, as the jeweler was finalizing the payment arrangements on the ring, I reminded him that he never officially asked me to marry him, so he'd better hope I accepted now that he had the ring. He just gave me a look and said 'The purchase is an implied proposal and the acceptance is an implied Yes.' This was about a month after I had spent 6 days in the hospital with a serious case of Pneumonia. His mother likes to say that he got scared after that and realized my importance to him, although he denies that was the reason. Maybe not the most romantic proposal, but it's just like him - downplay the expected like anniversaries, valentines day, and so on, but come through with unexpected surprises for no reason at all throughout the year.

A complete surprise (long)
Patrick and I had been together for almost 5 years when we got engaged, and I was just starting to think that maybe he wasn't the 'marrying' kind. He was preparing for his sergeants test (he's a police officer) and was really studying a lot. What I didn't know was that some of his 'study' sessions were actually taking place at the jeweler! The night before he was to take the test, I wanted to take him out to dinner so that he could relax and unwind before the big day. I was planning on taking him to a very nice Italian retaurant where we could linger over dinner and talk for a while. That night he suggested that we just grab a quick bite because he had some reviewing to do. I was disappointed, but I agreed. I suggested that we go to TGI Friday's, but Pat wanted to go to Okey Dokey's, which is where we met. We ate dinner, chatted a bit, and as we waited for the check, he started saying 'Well, we've been through so much together, you've put up with so much from me...' then he got all teary and couldn't finish. I got upset because I wasn't sure where the conversation was going. He finally just pulled the ring out of his pocket and said 'I planned this whole speech and now all I can say is will you be my wife??' I was completely shocked and speechless, but of course I said YES!: )

A complete surprise as well
Brian put the ring in his refrigerator and asked me to get him a drink when I opened the door the ring was sitting on the shelf. When I turned around Brian was on his knees and asked me.

Here's our story
A week before we got engaged, my mother gave us tickets to a new Broadway show that she wasn't going to be able to make. Unfortuately a few days later the show closed, but Matt and I decided to go out for a nice dinner in the city anyway. I met Matt at his office and we went to the restaurant at the top of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. While we were waiting for dessert to arrive, Matt got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had asked my dad for my hand a few weeks before and had planned on proposing on my birthday in July, but he picked up my ring during lunch on the day we were going to dinner and just couldn't wait. He called our parents to tell them of his change of plans while I was on my way into the city to meet him. When we got home, they were waiting for us with champagne and our first engagement presents--Bridal magazines and the Lenox bride and groom cake topper.

A complete surprise as well
My fiance and I were looking for a ring for a few months. Finally, I fell in love with a Tiffany ring in October. Even though we looked together, the actual proposal was going to be a suprise. Christmas came, no ring. New Years and Valentine`s day came, no ring. During this time, he kept saying that we would have to wait a little longer. Finally, on Feb 17, the night before my birthday we went to bed. Then at 12:01, the lights came on in our bedroom, and he was singing happy birthday with an icecream cake in his hand. I leaned over to hug and kiss him and when we parted, the tiffany box was in his hands. I just began crying and after regaining my breath, I said yes. I then called my parents crying and screaming. The funny thing about our story, is that he had the ring weeks before the proposal. He said he even placed it on my finger one night. On the night of the proposal, he was able to leave our bed and apartment while I was sleeping to get the cake from his sister house (she lives a few blocks away).

Here`s our story
I was so sure that after five years together that the New Years Eve millenium was going to be the night. My FI is not slick by any means and I just knew since it hadn`t happened on Christmas it had to be New Years since we were spending it with both sides of our families. Midnight came and no ring. I was so devastated. The worst part was trying to enjoy the rest of the party. Well for Christmas he got us a new puppy, so the week after New Years I was in our bedroom and the puppy was outside the bedroom door whimpering and crying. I heard him say mr. puppy wants love, so I opened the door and mr. puppy jumped on the bed and while I was petting him I noticed something on his collar. My FI had the ring in his collar with a note Will you marry me? and my FI was at the edge of the bed on one knee. His plan was to throw me off by not asking me on New Years. It was too cute!

It's long I babbled again :o)
Mike and I had been dating for about 5 years and we both knew that we would eventually get engaged. I was in no rush because I was still young. I knew we were getting engaged but I didn’t know how or when but I was suspicious when he planned a weekend away for us at Mohonk Mountain House. I remember having a really bad day at school. I was also annoyed because he was going to pick me up at the train station and we were going back to his house because he wasn’t ready (or so he said) and I had rushed things all day to be home by 5. When he picked me up at the train, he looked at me and kissed me and said to cheer up and I did. Then when we were around the corner from his house he said he had a surprise for me. He said we weren’t driving to Mohonk Mountain, now I was confused because it was about four hours away and I couldn’t imaging taking a train there, or a plane, then when we pulled up to of his house I saw a limo. I was so suprised he packed my bags in the limo and we drove away. Then on the way up we played cards and just had a great time we even got to nap, it was very relaxing Our room was beautiful, a fireplace and a balcony overlooking a lake and the mountains. It was a murder mystery weekend so we went downstairs to start the events, we went to and event that was followed by a cocktail party and he was so quiet the whole time, he just wanted to go back to the room. When we got back to the room we decide to set up a fire and relax. He left the room, and came back with ice; I was confused we didn’t have drinks. As he was gone I put a blanket infront of the fireplace, and got my pretty nightgown on. He then told me he had another surprise, and he pulled out a bottle of Dom. Perignon, I was so excited because I never tried it before, we put it on ice and set up the fire place. We sat infront of the fireplace and talked and kissed it was so romantic and I began to cry. He was looking at me so tenderly, he laughed b/c when he asked me why I was crying I said b/c his eyes were telling me I Love You. After about an hour he got the champagne, we opened it and poured two glasses, I made a toast that we would always be this much in love, I know I’m a sap. Then he said had to check something, when he came back he didn’t sit next to me he was getting on his knees but he was away from me I told him to come closer and he sat right next to me. Then he started breathing funny, like he was out of breath, I thought it was weird but I was enjoying the champagne and fire and before I could ask him if he was o.k. He said he had another surprise. I got all excited, and he pulled out the ring, and as he opened it he asked me to marry him. I jumped on top of him and started kissing him and crying like a baby he laughed at me again at me because I was crying so hard. He told me to calm down so he could put on the ring, I was crying so hard that I forgot about the ring. I finally calmed down and he put the ring on. Then he told me that he called my mother and asked her for permission, of course I started crying again, I thought it was so sweet for him to do that. He told me that when he asked her, she said What are you crazy? That’s it I’m sorry it is so long but it had to be to get the full effect.

My Big Surpeise.... (very long)
Well, I was always told by my FI that I would have my ring by New Years 2000 and when that came and went I was very upset!!! Then V-day came and went so when we were going on vacation at first I thought this could be it!!! well, we were going on a cruise with 5 other couples but before the ship was to leave port on Saturday we stayed at my g-ma`s for 2 days with my brother and his girl-friend (one of my best friends)...so natrually I figured he would do it in front of my g-ma knowing that would mean so much more to me!!! well, that came and went!!! and when we boarded the ship and he wasn`t nervous I was so sure that this whole vacation would go by ringless!!! Well, so stupid was I!!! Here I am being pissy to my friend about him not going to do it!!! (she didn`t know either that he had the ring!) meanwhile he was running around the whole ship trying to plan something!!! well, we went to the Welcome Aboard show that first night and I got called on stage. I was so nervous!!! about 8 people were called up there and the cruise director was going down the line asking everyone what they did and where they were from and just goofing around with everyone...well, I didn`t notice it at the time but they kept shifting me around the line until they placed me directly inthe middle...so my turn comes and I`m so nervous! and he asks me where i`m from so of course he starts making fun of the Long Island accent and than asks who I`m there with so I tell him my boyfriend and some friends and he starts asking how long have the two of you been together, where`s the ring? and stuff like that... STILL NOT CATHING ON!!!! So, than he asks where my FI is and he calls him on stage (by the way, this was in front of 1500 people!) AT THIS POINT I WAS STILL NOT CATHING ON! I figured he was going to just make fun of us!!! well when dave got on stage he pulled him over to the side and starts making fun of him but than he hands him the mic and that`s when I knew!!! it was so crazy!!! the whole place was cheering I couldn`t even hear him! Than I found out that the whole thing was taped and they played it on the ships tv for 2 days straight! Every woman on that cruise stopped me to see my ring! I was mortified but extremely happy!!! Sorry this was so long...but it's really the edited version!!!!

Mohonk Mountain House!!:-)VERY VERY LONG!!
Mohonk Mountain house was our favorite place to go away to and we had been there a couple of times in the year and a half of dating..... Steve and I knew that we wanted to grow old together. We had gone through a lot of stuff with my family (we come from different cultural backgrounds) and we stuck by each other and fought to be together....as I was planning on graduating from grad school and my parents were in town for the graduation(they live in CA), Steve planned a meeting with my incredibly traditional father to ask his permission for my hand (very sweet...he made my mom and dad cry). We had gone ring shopping together....but Steve wanted to keep the proposal a surprise. After graduation, I planned a trip with one of my girlfriends and went away for twelve days....the trip was nice but I missed Steve immensely and could not wait to go back home..... The day I came home from the trip, Steve suggested that we go to Mohonk Mountain House so we can just spend some quality time together. I was very excited, but I really did not think anything of it, since we had not seen each other for a while and he had previously told me how he was having a difficult time finding the ring that I had wanted (the style of the ring was something I had imagined but had never seen anywhere). So we drove up to Mohonk Mountain and had lunch and Steve suggested that we take a walk up to the tower. He was being very sweet on the way up and we were having a really great time being together. We walked up the tower and just enjoyed the amazing view from the top. I really felt like I was on top of the world. There was no where that I wanted to be at that moment other than be with him....it was a really neat feeling....As I was enjoying the view, Steve put his arms around me from the back and started telling me how he felt about us and other really sweet things. I actually got really nervous and excited all of a sudden, because he usually does not just start talking about really serious emotions, you know? Anyway, he started telling me that he had not been honest with me (I started think negative things at this time) and he turned me around as he went down on one knee. He held my hand and told me that he had not been honest about the ring....then he took out a beautiful ring box (ring holder) and placed the box in my hand. As he opened the box, he asked me to marry him. I was totally blown away and felt like the happiest woman in the world! I of course said Yes and screamed from the top of my lungs because I was so excited!!! It was pretty neat, because all up to the point when he proposed, we were all alone...but a few minutes later a group of couples (ages about 60 +) came up the tower. They were the first people that I told that I got engaged!!! The couples were cute cause they started telling me how every year of marriage gets better and better....and this old man turned to Steve and told him, as he was hugging his wife, that he has been married to his wife over 50 years and he has never been happier! He also joked with Steve and told him to say Yes to me whenever I ask for anything!!!:-) I`m sorry that this was soooooo long, but thank you for letting me share my story with you!:-)

Total shock!
Rocco and I met my freshman year at Jonhson and Wales University in Providence,RI. Eight years later we got engaged!! We used to spend a lot of time in Newport,RI, and we decided to go there in a weekend get away this past September. After a day of hiking and a sunset cruise, we stopped at a spot where we used to go to BQ(on the ocean). It was dark at this point and I didn't want to get out of the car(in the back of my mind I thought this could be it...so get out of the car!) We walked out on the rocks and he began talking about all the wonderful times we shared there, and then he said let's go. I was upset, but didn't want him to think I was mad. Then he said but before we go, here's a penny close your eyes and make a wish...I wished that this was it. And when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee and he asked me to marry him. As he was there on his knee I stood speechless. Finally he said well? I always made fun of the women who were speechless( I thought it wasn't possible). I said yes, and he put the ring on my finger. He was so nervous for a gut who doesn't sweat. When I opened the door to our cottage I saw a dozen long stem roses, and a bottle of Dom Perignon from the year we met. We ended the night with a wonderful dinner in the main house of the resort. He also called my mom prior to going away and asked her for my hand.

Mohonk Mountain House!!
I currently live about 1/2 hour from Mohonk. I try to get there as much as possible. It is so beautiful there. As I read your story I was able to picture the tower. Did you do the lemon squeeze? Great place to go for all who have never been there. I would go in the fall, it's something to see.

x'mas morning
On x'mas morning he woke me up early and each present he gave me had a note in it with a hint how to find the next present. Finally the last note said find the special ornmament on the x'mas tree. He had the ring box hanging from the x'mas tree. When I opened it a fortune cookie note said Will you marry me? I was so surprised all I did is look at him. I don't think I even said yes.Welcome New Vendors
