Engagement Stories

I ALWAYS get teary eyed when I read people's engagement stories and come on, who doesn't love telling them. I know I love sharing mine. So, what's your engagement story?

Re: Engagement Stories

I love telling mine:

During an intense game of Rock Band, Michael asked when we were exchanging Christmas gifts and told me mine was under the tree. It was a beautiful hand-crafted Disney centerpiece with Mickey Mouse and Pluto riding a sleigh. Now, a little backstory. We had recently moved into our new house, and we were using a spare bedroom for storage. A friend of ours had spent the night the day before, so while I was at work, Michael cleared out the bedroom so we could accomodate our friend. Little did he know, his Christmas gift was in a box in that bedroom's closet. When I went to get Michael's gift out of the closet, I noticed he had piled all of boxes that were being stored in the bedroom on top of the box with his gift in the closet!. I asked him to help me move the boxes, and as he put one of the boxes down, it had a ring box on it. I stopped in my tracks, saw the box, and said 'What's that???' Michael told me it was nothing. I responded with 'No seriously, what is it.' He told me to open it myself and find out.

I opened it and immediately said 'Are you serious???' Michael said no and took it back. He took the ring out of the box, and began to put it on my finger, but I noticed he was putting it on my right hand! I quickly corrected him, and after he put the ring on the correct finger, I started hugging and kissing him. It was then that he suddenly said 'So you haven't answered me.' My response was 'You haven't asked me anything.' He looked me dead in the eye and said....'So, you wanna?'

Re: Engagement Stories

Not much of a story from my end, unfortunately. A year ago when I was dating FH and had celebrated our 1 year anniversary, I I received a call from a female friend who said she had joined a singles group and had befriended a lot of single guys..Said she had one guy she wanted me to meet...

I talked to my best gay guy friend who said I should go on the date since FH and I were almost exclusive but no where near tying the knot..I sat down with FH and had that 'talk' about where things were going with us, and said I really loved our relationship but wasn't going to just do the casual dating thing with him because we were very exclusive but still not officially married or living together. At that point, I said I was thinking of going to casual singles events and not be so exclusive with him..

He freaked out and we didn't talk for like 2 weeks. Finally, he calls me one weekend morning all panicky asking me to have lunch with him...about an hour later, I open my front door and he's standing there with an engagement ring in his hand and a very sheepish look on his face...

the rest as they say is history...lol

Re: Engagement Stories

Anthony had asked me earlier in the week if I wanted to go to dinner where we had our first date and then go to Rockefeller Center and I said ok. I was working on a Saturday and it was March 14th, the day before Corporate tax deadline. That morning he asked me if we were still going to dinner and I said yes. He sends me a text an hour later saying that he's not feeling well and wants to just go to dinner and I said ok. He sends me a text an hour after that saying he's not sure if he wants to go to dinner and I got mad and said its fine, we can do whatever you want to do.

I get home from work at 5pm and he calls me to see if I was home and he says lets go to that steak restaurant you like in Manhattan. So we go to Russo's and we park at the garage and he gives me a bag and says its a gift for me but I can't open it until we get to the restaurant. We sit at our table and I put the bag to the side and we ordered appetizers. Then Anthony says aren't you going to open your gift? I had completely forgotten about it! Its a white teddy bear with a big box tied to its neck and I was like what this and he said open it you'll see. I was trying to open the box and it was taped and he said that I was taking too long to open it and he took the box from my hand, took off the tape and opened the box facing him and then he turned for me to see and said 'Will you marry me?' My jaw hit the floor and I was so shocked that all I could say was um yeah

We had made plans to go ice skating at Wollman Rink in Central Park. So, at the point where they ask everyone to get off the ice so they can clean it, he's keeping me there and leading me towards a circle in the middle of the rink that was coned off. So, I'm skating towards it and saying to him- 'honey, we have to get off the ice' and he's saying- 'ok, so let's go this way'. He glides down on one knee in the middle of the circle and asks me in front of everyone. I just start hysterically crying. And little did I know that one of his friends that came with us had a video camera, so we have it on video.

My Fiancé asked me if I would want to go flying and we would fly upstate to have lunch (He is a Pilot) I said I would love to. We spent Saturday night planning a flight plan to the location we were headed to. We left early Sunday afternoon for our adventure. We took off out of Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY and we were headed south towards Robert Moses Beach. He said we needed to go towards the south to get out of the airports airspace and then we were cut up north between Farmingdale and Islip’s airspace. Being that I don’t fly this sounded perfectly normal to me. Well as we were headed over field 4 of the beach I felt the plane dip a little bit and started to feel a little uneasy. He then leaned over and asked me what was down there on the ground. Well there was a 66ft x7ft banner that said Amanda Will U Marry Me”? I said “YES” and that is my story!

Re: Engagement Stories

We were in our apartment getting ready to go to his parents for Sunday dinner in November 11th, 2007. I was sitting on our loveseat, when he turned off the football game, took my laptop from me and starred at me for about 5 minutes. It freaked me out. He just kept smiling and kissing my hand. He started to speak and at first I honestly thought he was breaking up with me, so I started to mentally plan his death. =)

Then I realized what really was going on that I was just trying to breath. I didnt hear 90% of it. lol. My response was 'are you sh*tting me' (My mom must be so proud. haha!) I finally said YES. Hug. Kiss. Kiss. Kiss. Hug. We went to his parents' house, where he planned a surprise party with a handful of his family, a bunch of friends and some of my family. I still lose my breathe everytime I think about it.

There's a myth if you make a wish when the clock turns to 11:11 it will come true. Well, Tom made my dreams come true when the calendar turned to 11/11. Unknown to me, he recorded the proposal. With the distance of the camera from us, Tom's whispering and the camera itself the quality isn't too great, but I still treasure it.'

Re: Engagement Stories

I love telling mine too!! But it's long!! LOL, I wanted to share everything!

My FH and I had been dating for 4 1/2 years. We've been talking about engagement and marriage for a while and I knew the ring would come this year, but we've been talking about it so much that I started to wonder if it would ever actually happen. He knew what type of ring I wanted (gold band, princess cut stone with some kind of accent diamonds... not a 3 stone! lol) and we'd talked about where and when in relation to school and work and blah blah blah. It felt like we were already unofficially engaged but I couldn't wait for it to be official alreay because I was sick of calling him my boyfriend. We were past that point, we were family and I wanted to be taken seriously already!

So anyway, we usually go on vacation every summer, at least for a weekend if nothing else, but I finished school in May and started a full time summer internship right away that I coldn't take time away from. He was so disappointed, but he told me early in June, make sure you keep the weekend of Aug 7-9 completely free. He said he wanted to take me away for the weekend since we couldn't go on vacay all summer. School was starting 8/10 for me and I was taking a big national exam on Friday the 7th, so I wasn't sure it was a good idea to do that, but he insisted to I told him I'd block the weekend out for him.

All summer, he wouldn't tell me anything. Everyone kept telling me, oh, he's going to propose, but I didn't think he was going to. I'd been waiting so long, I couldn't imagine it being real, you know? So I took my exam on Friday and he was so sweet, he drove me to the city because my testing center got changed last minute from LI to Manhattan and he knew I was upset. Then he told me get dressed up, heels, cocktail dress, we're going out for a super fancy dinner to celebrate the end of summer. He wouldn't tell me where. He had also told me to pack a bag for the weekend, that we were staying somewhere for the weekend.
We drive out to Suffolk from where I live in Queens and we pull up to Oheka Castle!! I was so excited when I saw the sign! We had seen it on TV and it was so beautiful.

Not only were we having dinner, but he brught his overnight bag inside... and we checked in to Oheka! While we were settling into our beautiful room, he told me dinner was at 7:30. Should he wear a jacket? I had already looked at his pockets for a (additional, lol) bulge, but there was nothing. So if he wasn't going to wear a jacket, I figured where would he have the ring? This isn't happening tonight, I resigned myself to that. So I told him to wear whatever he wanted, that I had no idea what was going on so how would I know what he should wear?
I told him everyone said we were getting engaged and he said no, you know I have to wait, I'm still saving and I want to do it right, but it'll happen soon, I promise. OK. SO we go downstairs for dinner and they take us into the private sitting room.. he arranged private dinner! The room was beautful with french dors that look out onto the gardens and fountains behind the mansion. The sun was setting, it was so perfect. I kept thinking how will he ever top this when he decides to propse?
We were waiting for appetizers to come, he had pre selected the menu, so I didn't have to do anything. He asked me to get up and stand by the doors so he could take a photo. I turned around to ask if I was ok where I was standing and there he was on one knee!! He faked me out so well and I had psyched myself out so much that I was frozen in shock when I turned around. He had tears in his eyes and he was so nervous, he didn't say much. Just that he loved me and would I marry him! He had the ring hidden in his camera bag, the genius! I didn't think twice about him asking to take a photo of me.
Of course I said yes and he gave me the ring of my dreams and I laughed and cried for a while. We called our parents, had dinner and had a beautful rest of the weekend at Oheka. After dinner we went back to our room and there were the cheesy, cliche but wondeful anyway rose petals on the bed and champagne and strawberries waiting for us.

The next day we toured the mansion and had dinner at Meroni's in East Nothport (FABULOUS tasting menu, I recommend it highly!) and then went to visit my best friend from high school since he made me cancel plans with her and her husband and baby. It was the perfect weekend and the perfect moment and I will never forget the rush of adrenaline and sheer joy I felt in that moment knowing the man of my dreams wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.

Re: Engagement Stories

i love telling my story!

last summer (2008) i was very sick and i kept telling FH i want to go to disney world for my birthday (may 2) if i am feeling better. january comes around and i am starting to feel myself again so we booked the trip to disney for the day after my birthday. FH decided he would pay for the whole trip and it would be my valentines, birthday, 7 yr anniversary, and this years christmas present. this was fine with me because disney is the best gift every. may 3 finally came and we were on an airplane to the happiest place on earth. when we got there we just stayed by the pool all day because it was soo hot. that night we went to the magic kingdom because it was open until 1am. this was FH's first time in disney world and he was so excited to see the castle and he heard about the firework show 'wishes' so it was very important to him to see the fireworks at 10pm. we got so caught up on the rides that we forgot to eat dinner and it was getting close to firework time. i said we can come back another night and catch the fireworks but FH kept insisting we watch them and eat after. i finally agreed so we headed over to the castle to get a good spot. the fireworks began and FH is very lovie dovie so he began to hug me and said i am so happy to be here with you i just gave a quick me too and continued to watch the show. a few minutes later as he takes one hand a gets down on one knee he says ' i guess its true, this is the place where dreams come true, will you marry me?' my mouth drops i begin shaking totally speechless. i thought he was joking and holding a promise ring he gave me 2 years early that i placed in the hotel room safe. once i realized it was not a joke because he was still on his knee i said yes! it was the best moment, best surprise, best firework show, and a vacation i will never forget. after the firework show we walked and my first question was.. does my parents know? he said of course and i called my mom right away and couldn't even get the words out. she had been waiting for the phone call all day meanwhile i called her about 5 times during the day. the next day we were in a store in the park and a cashier commented on my ring and we said we just got engaged yesterday and she gave us a pin that said just engaged. i love disney world!

Re: Engagement Stories

My fiancee knew i wanted to get married in May and i felt he should propose by this may so we have 12 months. he kept telling me i can't afford the ring now at least until the end of the summer...he was lying to keep it a surprise. he showed up down the block from my house on may 30 in a rented mustang (which i've been wanting) he was waiting for me to come outside for 20 minutes..i was coming out to my car to actually drive to his house and was stunned to see him there..as i opened my front door
he blasted Is this love by whitesnake (oh david coverdale! so hot!) from the car and stepped out and went down on one knee as walked towards him. then i had to go in pack because he had planned a night in montauk and skydiving the next day. i never suspected a thing.. ,and that's just what he wanted.
he loves surprises.

he set up his camera to videotape by placing on the neighbor's porch and stayed in the car. then after 10 minutes he said he got out to restart the camera and to make sure it was working...but the camera was gone! my neighbor found it and took it back into the house...but as he was looking a round for it, she saw him and gave it back, so he filmed from the dashboard instead.

Re: Engagement Stories

Our engagement was very quiet and sentimental. It was a week after I turned 20 and we moved into our first apartment. FH had always said that he wanted to get engaged when we were living together so I 100% did NOT expect a proposal only THREE days after we moved in!! Especially because I was just 20. We moved into our apartment on Friday and spent the whole weekend setting everything up and having so much fun. On Monday, I had school until 6 and when I got home at 6:30, he had made dinner for me and had wine and everything but I just figured it was because it was our first real dinner in our home..even though it was just hamburger helper lol. He sat me down and put a plate over the bowl and said that it looks disgusting so he didn't want to gross me out or something because I'm such a picky eater and I won't eat anything that looks gross lol. So I was 'oh come on, I'm sure its fine, let me see' and I lifted the plate off and there was the ring..and I didn't believe him!

He dropped to one knee and I honestly couldn't even tell you all that he said because I was just laughing and telling him to shut up and that he was joking.. So romantic, right? lol. Eventually I called my parents and they confirmed that it was true because they had known about it for like 3 weeks!

Re: Engagement Stories

It was our 9th year anniversary. The day was July 23, 2009, Thursday. It was raining and thunder storming that day, just another ordinary anniversary...

We had dinner reservations at Asiate at 6pm. We were the first guests to arrive at the restaurant. The waiter sat us by the corner with a wonderful view of Central Park and Columbus Circle. The waiter welcomed us and gave them the wine and food menu.

We placed our drink and food orders. The appetizers arrived, which were absolutely delicious. During the entrees, FH asked me if I wanted my anniversary gift. I originally thought he bought me a Little Big Planet - Shackboy doll. I immediately said no since we were at such elegant restaurant, I didn't want to feel embarrassed.

However, FH gave me a small blue bag - the ever famous Tiffany bag. Enclosed was the ever famous blue box wrapped in white ribbon. For a split second, I thought it was a ring box but that thought was quickly diminished as the box did not look like a ring box. Inside was a beautiful necklace. After we both finished our entrees (which of course was delicious), FH excused himself to go to the restroom.

FH returns from the restroom and the waiter brings the desserts. To their surprise the restaurant has also given them a complimentary dessert escribing 'Happy Anniversary' on the plate. During dessert, FH talks to me:

FH: 'I've been going out with this girl for nine wonderful years, do you think that if I proposed to her that she will marry me? Cindy will you marry me?'

Me: (alcohol kicking in - is in disbelief as what has just happened, could not believe he got me the exact ring i wanted and quickly realizes what he has just asked her) Yes...

Just keep in mind - on our first date - he used the same line when he was taking me home...We were inside my house - he says to me - I've been out with this girl this whole day, we had a great time, I was wondering if she'll give me a kiss...and the rest is history...

It was Christmas Eve and we were at the apartment getting ready. Joseph told me to take a shower first so he can finsihing wrapping presents. Since we were already late to dinner at his Grandmother's I quickly agreed. After being done in the shower, I walked out of the bathroom turned the corner to our bedroom and on the bed was a heart made of pink rose petals with candles all around and in the middle was the ring box. I looked at him in the corner of the bedroom and said, 'Are you serious?' He started laughing and walked over to me and put the ring on my finger.

Oh all right, I guess if I have to tell the story one more time...haha Who doesn't loveeee telling their story right?!

We have been together for 9 years...I went away for college and we were both getting our feet on the ground so we knew we had to wait until the time was right. In June he completed the NYS trooper academy (he lived upstate in Albany for this for 6 months). After the graduation we came back to LI and had a big a party for him at my beach club Bayberry to celebrate his accomplishment During midst of the party he said he needed some air and so we took a walk down to the dock. Without my knowledge all of our family and friends were told to quietly go out of the clubhouse onto the deck for a surprise. With about 70 of our family and friends watching from the clubhouse deck above with their champagne glasses raised, he popped the question! When I turned around and looked over by the clubhouse everyone was clapping and toasting ! Some of the guests were just as surprised as I was (note the picture =). We are so excited! It's just like him to end up including me in something that's supposed to be all about him! It was perfect.

From reading all of your stories it looks like we are some lucky girls

Re: Engagement Stories

Haha who does not love sharing their story?

For our second date the FH and I went to see Night at the Museum. Since that night we have talked about going to the Museum of Natural History. So finally after trying to go so many times we made it to the museum on August 29th like two and half years later. We spent the whole day going around the museum. He was apparently nervous all day I had no clue.

Finally when were about ready to go home, he said he wanted to go back to the gem section to see something. Still oblivious I was like ummm okay. We get there and I am exhausted, so I asked him if he minds if I sit down while he goes and looks at what he wants to see. He begs me to come with him so I do. I guess when we had been there earlier one of the rooms had been pretty much empty but of course there was a huge tour group this time.

So we are heading out and he stops in this movie area right outside the gemstones...I think it was the meteorite movie or something. No one is in there and he gets all lovey. Now I am so anti-PDA so I kiss him but I am like someone can walk in at any moment. I am still clueless. He asks me if I enjoyed the gems (cause it is one of my favorite areas) and then if something was missing from the area (since he had commented before about the fact that there were no diamonds I of course said no diamonds). Still not expecting anything I was my usually obnoxious self I said that I saw no diamonds and jokingly included that I was still waiting for mine as well...which he of course set me up for.

Then he just kept saying my name...Jamie...Jamie... and I was like oh my gosh!!! But then nothing happened and I was like okay maybe not. Finally after like a full minute of nothing he pulls out the ring from behind his back and asks me to marry him. Now I am in such shock and the ring is soooo shiny and big that I am speechless. I take the ring out and put it on and I am just staring at it. Finally Nick is like...um you didn't answer my questions. I finally wake up out of my daze and say of course yes!

That is my long story!
