Re: Engagment Parties

I think it is a bit tacky-JMO (enough is enough
it doesn't matter how long you are engaged
people will get you gifts regardless

I think having an engagement party, a shower, a bachelor/bachelorette party and a wedding is asking tooo much.
I think having either an engagement party or a shower is appropriate.

It isn't special anymore if you have too many things for one person.

many people asked if i could register for things i liked... and i did.. (that was the only reason i registered so early)

I think its a nice idea. We're having one. I do agree that so many events concerning the wedding become expensive for guests and that was why we debated having one in the first place.
I think its OK if you're having a long engagement - its the perfect time for family and friends to meet, especially if its not too formal!
I've heard its bad etiquette to ask guests not to bring gifts on the invitation, so we're just doing it word of mouth.
Anyone who is invited who thinks its for the money obviously doesn't know us well enough! JMO

My FI and I did not want an E party because we felt that it is too much for people. E-party, shower, weddng... it gets a lil crazy. We went to to E-parties and thought they were pointless. One was like a wedding except no BM or Gown but the rest was like a wedding. The other was strange we sat in a catering hall and ate and that was it, no one said anything. We wanted our immediate families to get together so my FI and I made reservations and treated our families to dinner. It was nice but like they say 'to each his own'
