My fiances parents are throughing us an engagement party. There will be about 65 people and it is taking place in a meeting room at a firehouse. There will be food and a DJ. It is on a Sat afternoon in July. I bought a strapless knee length dress, it is white with different color flowers on it. My mom feels I should go a little fancier, is this nessecary? I want to be comfortable and not to dresseyl, but I also want tostand out. Help!

I think that will be fine. As long as you feel comfortable and like the dress. You can always dress it up with nice accessories as well.

YES! accessories can really make a difference.
Is she concerned maybe that someone will try to 'out-dress' you?

I'm sure that she's worried that someone is going to out dress me. She wants me to stand out. But for me this is a time for the two families and our friends to get together and celebrate with us. As soon as I get a chance I will try on the dress and post it.

depending on the type of dress, you can accessorise with jewlery and even small hair jewels. I don't really know what you or thee dress look like, but for my shower I wore a black silk suit (it was too cold for a dress) but I wore my hair tressed with red and clear hair jewlels in the curls. It made a big difference.

hi - my dress is similar to what you described, but it has straps and is a little longer then knee length. i am wearing black sandals and simple jewerly. add a cute necklace or earings and i'm sure you'll look great. since its kind of a casual/informal event, but you are the guest of honor, you should be a little more dressy then everyone else, but not so much that you are uncomfortable. have fun.

When we had our engagement party we told everyone invited no suits, casual only. My fw wore a pretty white linen dress, and I wore a linen khakis and a white linen shirt to match.

I agree with the girls, there are many accessories to dress it up. But I think you are on the right idea, it sounds like a great dress for the eparty. Two things I would add, make sure to wear heals and depending on your hair, maybe add a fresh flower to it.

I messed up on posting the pictures before, so lets see if this works. This should be a picture of the front and back of the dress I bought.
finally figured out how to post a pic of the dress, now I just need to find someone to take a pic of me in it. lol

Re: Engagment Party
This is just my personal opinion, but I think the style of the dress is PERFECT but I think that the pattern may be a little too casual (if that makes any sense?). Maybe something like these J.Crew dresses--they're both lightweight fabric, which will be nice for an afternoon party and they're the same shape as your dress, but I think they might be easier to 'dress up' so your Mom will be happy.
ok, well I went shopping with my mom for a dress for her and I ended up getting ANOTHER dress. This one is a black halter top ddress with a little bit of sequence and knee length, i bought shoes that dress it down a little. Now i just have to decide which to wear. They are complete opposites.

E-party is on sat. and i still dont know which dress to wear. Plus we dont even now anything going on, my fmil is not doing to good with keeping me upto date. My parents offered to help plenty of times and my aunt is the one that reserved the room for us, we havent heard from her. I'm getting a little upset.
