Re: Engagment Party!
we kinda had to have one. FH's family is very into parties. But I must admit it was really great getting everyone together and celebrating.

I'm hoping to do a bbq or something this summer for an 'engagement party'. I want to get everyone together but nothing too formal.

We're having one, but it's going to be a Sunday brunch just so our families can kind of mingle and do the whole meet&greet. Since his fam is from Westchester and above, no one really knows each other. Can't believe it's in 2 weeks!

Not having one. Dont want to spend the extra $$ when it can go towards the wedding.
I do plan to have a small meet n greet for our immediate families and BP but that will either be a brunch or something small n cheap like that! Lol

I feel the same away. Also our friends and family are from all over ( 80 % of guest list is out of town). so it seems pointless.
We treated our immediate families to a sit down dinner on us about 2 months after we got engaged. That went.. well.. interested.
My father basically horrified my future MIL. She afterwards, told me my family can be as rude as I make them out to be. His siblings hate mine. Fun.

Re: Engagment Party!
I'm honestly kind of bummed his family didn't offer to have something. Mine is paying for the whole wedding so I was NOT asking my parents to host one. We are buying a house so we don't have a location to host one and we can't afford to really do a restaurant thing (because of buying the house hah) But when we move in this summer, we are going to have a BBQ type casual party as a housewarming instead. So I'm happy with that. Our families have met but not everyone, so hopefully most people can make it and they will meet there.

Do it! It's a blast to hang out with family before the real craziness comes with the planning!

We will have ours this summer, a little before a year of the wedding. This way we can use my parents yard and not have to pay for a hall

I originally didn't want one.... haha but we had a backyard party about a month after we got engaged! It was really nice to celebrate the craziness (wedding planning) that we were about to start!

I'm having a BBQ in June! We wanted a BBQ but got engaged in late August so there was too much going on.. we're just gonna make it low-key and want the families to have fun!

Re: Engagment Party!
We just had our engagement party this past Saturday. I had mixed feelings about the whole engagement party also, but it seemed important to our moms so I agreed. I am actually really glad I did. We invited our close family and the bridal party, so all the main people could meet each other and mingle. It was nice to see everyone getting along and we ended up having a great time. The best part was seeing how excited people were that we were getting married, we felt so loved. I am glad my mom pushed me to do it.

I want and am having the exact same thing at my house. My mom loves the idea but keeps saying well what if it rains blah blah.

Re: Engagment Party!
I want one but I literally just got engaged and have $0 to my name as well as does my fiance, lol...so if we can afford one, we will have one or if our parents throw us one...well then we will GLADLY have one :)
but...I think I would want to have a backyard one as opposed to a more formal-ish one at a hall b/c that's what the wedding will be like. A backyard one would be more low-key and much more our style.
