Equal shower gifts?

Do you think that was their shower AND wedding gift?

You could give them a smaller shower gift and a check for their wedding once that rolls around.

Just a suggestion.

That's what I was thinking, but I'll have no way of knowing that until my wedding. And then I'll be on my HM, so it's not like I'll be able to go shopping that week or even want to be thinking about it! I'd rather get it done now.

That's a good idea about giving a standard shower gift and maybe a bit more for their wedding. I'm going to see if my mom and/or bro want to go in on something with me.

Thanks!

i would try and get as close to equal as you can afford..i usually do this unless someone underspends on me bc of financial reasons, and then ill just give them what i normally would give a person

Yeah, that makes sense.

Again, if it was someone I was close to, I could understand it more, but this just seems so out of left field!

Thanks!

My friend that just got married was given a large unexpected shower gift which ended up being her wedding gift as well. The guest was also from out of town where it is more traditional to give off the registry for the wedding.

If I was you i would give a $200 shower gift b/c if they are counting their gift for BOTH you can then do the same.

My male cousin and his fiancee are getting married at the end of July. She came to my recent shower and gave us our $200 bedding set. I was completely blown away at how generous they were (and of course was very grateful in the ty) and kind of in shock. It seemed somewhat out of character from what I know of their professions and such.

I just received an invite in the mail for her shower. It's the weekend after we get married, so I can't go, but do I send a gift worth the same/similar amount? I normally spend around $75 on a shower gift, and I'm not necessarily close with this cousin.

My gut says to match it. What do you think?

We're all teachers. Teachers, especially ones at our age, are not raking in the $$. I was surprised and shocked (pleasantly) that they would spend that much. Yes, it's an assumption, but it would be far worse if I was upset because of the opposite (makes a lot of $ and gave a cheap gift...which I would NEVER be!!!!).

Give what you are able to and what you think is right.

Once you play the game of matching one another's gifts it never stops. Next it'll be baby shower gifts, then baby gifts, then bday gifts and it's just a bad cycle to get into.

I think you are 100% right to give less then $200 for a shower gift.

I dont think you have to match. You gift according to the relationship and whats your normal. Maybe go $100-125, but if you wouldnt normally spent 200, I wouldn't now

i agree!

I think that you should give whatever you can afford. I know that some people will say that you have to match the gift that the other person gave you when it comes time to give them a gift but in all honesty...a wedding is not about the gifts....its about the celebration. Imo you should just give what you can afford or what you usually give

ITA

Do what you can AFFORD.

I am sure the answer will be in your etiquette book

Rita I <3 you

I would match what they gave me. I would not feel right giving less then someone gave me.

I normally spend at least $100 on a shower gift and $200+ for relatives/close friends and their fiances (close or not).

I also would try to give close to the amount people gave me. Many times I actually give more - I guess generosity is one of my good qualities.
